We've lived in Madison or 10 years but for some reason never thought of Liv's as a "go-to" place. Well, was a pleasant surprise and sorry we didn't discover it sooner. We made reservations and were brought to a lonely 2-top surrounded by 4-tops at the far end of the restaurant...the table was very out of place and small so we opted for the bar. There were only 2 stools left at the end of the bar so grabbed them promptly. The bar is enjoyable, only suggestion would be to spend the $50 to put a tinted layer on the glass looking into the kitchen. Lights were so bright from the kitchen it was distracting and unflattering (the reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5).
Shellfish sampler $40 appetizer was delicious. Tuna tartare was also nice and plentiful. Cobia entree was slightly under portioned; Bucatini entree was plentiful & tasty. Both entrees were swimming in butter (a personal opinion) so we asked our impeccable and attentive server / bartender Kayla if the chef would be open to a "no butter" request with our next visit. She assured us he would. We will be back!

Although we live a few towns away from this restaurant, we had never been there. Thank God we discovered it now! Four of us went this Saturday night, and had a 5:00 reservation. We were seated immediately and we told our server that we had tickets to a concert at the Mohegan Sun. He assured us not to worry and that he would make sure we were out in time. The menu here is fantastic, and we hard a hard time selecting what we wanted to eat. We started out with drinks - wine and cocktails, and the wine list was great, and the cocktails were made perfectly. We got salads (BLT), crab cakes and some oysters for appetizers - the oysters were out of this world - with the sample platter, we got 8 different kinds, and one one was delicious. For entrees, the tuna looked too good to pass up, so 3 of us selected that dish - it was cooked perfeclty, nice and rare, and served over mashed potatoes - yum. The fourth person got the scallops, which were also cooked perfectly. The service here is outstanding, very attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere is quite nice, upscale yet not stuffy - a very comfortable vibe. Although we couldnt take as much time as we would have liked for the whole experienc, we will certainly be going back here to try some more their menu selection. Do not miss this experience - a must eat!

My wife and I dined at Liv's last Friday and could not be happier about the food, its quality, and how it was prepared.

My wife and I split the rawbar sampler, which was very good, but not $40 good.

My wife had the beet salad for her entree, which she thought was excellent and so large that she had some of it wrapped to take home.

I had the yellowfin tuna as my entree and it was exceptional - one of the best that I have every had.

My wife's glass of chardonnay cost $12, which both of us thought was a rip-off price.

All-in-all, an excellent meal.

Unfortunately, due to its prices, we will only go to Liv's for special occasions.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about Liv's. If you are interested in shellfish you should try us out on Wednesdays when we have $1.00 oysters all night!! Thursdays we offer half off all bottles of wine. So you need not wait for your special occasion to join us, but if you do, we also offer a chardonnay for $8.00 a glass as well.

Liv's is our favorite place to eat seafood on the Shoreline. They actually cook fish to order where appropriate (salmon medium rare), and all their seafood is fresh or it disappears from the menu. The drinks are fabulous, and oysters are world class. We love their salads and have never had a bad meal there!! Nice atmosphere and great service!

The dining hall was full so we ate at the bar. The drinks are very good. The steak is good too. The most memorable part was the doughnuts for dessert. So yummy!
