We've lived in Madison or 10 years but for some reason never thought of Liv's as a "go-to" place. Well, was a pleasant surprise and sorry we didn't discover it sooner. We made reservations and were brought to a lonely 2-top surrounded by 4-tops at the far end of the restaurant...the table was very out of place and small so we opted for the bar. There were only 2 stools left at the end of the bar so grabbed them promptly. The bar is enjoyable, only suggestion would be to spend the $50 to put a tinted layer on the glass looking into the kitchen. Lights were so bright from the kitchen it was distracting and unflattering (the reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5).
Shellfish sampler $40 appetizer was delicious. Tuna tartare was also nice and plentiful. Cobia entree was slightly under portioned; Bucatini entree was plentiful & tasty. Both entrees were swimming in butter (a personal opinion) so we asked our impeccable and attentive server / bartender Kayla if the chef would be open to a "no butter" request with our next visit. She assured us he would. We will be back!
