“Clam Fancier”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

I live where fried clams are rather mediocre. I search for places that care. Johnny Ads has good reviews and I concur. I want the whole clam, not fragments. I want a good batter ( I'm not expecting tempura ) but it can't be thick blotting paper. I want them fresh, NOT OVERCOOKED
( this is a common problem ), served HOT. Johnny Ads complied well with all requirements. And a nice cole slaw. The Flume in Mashpee ( now gone - sigh ) set the gold standard. Heavenly. But this place helps console me.

“Just an okay place for lunch”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

The place is rustic and is definitely a roadside diner. Nothing fancy and the food while adequate is not particularly memorable.

“Favorite stop in Old Saybrook!”
Reviewed October 11, 2012 via mobile

You can't beat lunch at Johnny Ad's! If you're a fry shack fan (who isn't?) this is worth the stop. Best dogs, burgers, fried seafood and more. Inventive menu with lots of choices even for the those who being good about their diet :)
Bring cash, no plastic here.

“Roadside fish shack with retro vibe”
Reviewed September 24, 2012 via mobile

Stopped in here on the first day of vacation, looking for lobster rolls. They had them, and all the other stuff you'd expect, like fried clams, scallops, etc. Prices were a bit high, to my mind, though not crazy. Three of us got lobster rolls. They were good but not phenomenal. We also got the onion rings, which were decent. Loved that they had birch beer on the menu. Very retro vibe, and plenty of seating. Wait to order was a little long, bug food came put quickly. They don't take credit cards, which is something I always find annoying.

“Never a bad experience.. Stop here!!”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

I have been going to Johnny Ad's for many years. Never a bad experience. Started out as a roadside hot dog stand and has grown into well known seafood restaurant with that old time hot dog stand feel. The seafood is the among the best in the region. Therefore Johnny Ad's gets my "Top Stop Award". When passing through Old Saybrook it's worth a stop.
