Description: Named Best Waterfront Dining and Best Seafood by Connecticut Magazine in 2016, Fresh Salt serves seasonal and locally inspired meals. Our tables overlook the waters of the Connecticut River where the fresh river meets the salt of the Long Island Sound. It's a treasured and historic spot with a natural environment that is rich in life. Fresh Salt restaurant reflects that lively diversity: We have a raw bar, a seasonally varied menu, and offer as much as we can from the farms, brewers, cheese makers and other food enterprises that are springing up around our region. Fresh Salt delivers a dining experience that's comfortable and relaxed. Our staff is here to be of service to you, our kitchen stands ready with fresh ingredients, a deep wine cellar and carefully crafted fusions of foods and beverages that bring tastes together in delicious and new ways. We have tables by the fire, at the bar, and in season offer seating outdoors on the Fresh Salt Terrace. Awards include: - Best Brunch, Best Waterfront Dining, Best Seafood, and Best Hotel Dining from Connecticut Magazine, January 2016 - Named Upscale Restaurant of the Year by Connecticut Restaurant Association, December 2015

We drove down from Cromwell to see the ocean. First time seeing it during the winter.
Asked the waitress to put us where we would have a great view. WOW. Any window is a great view. Watched out over the lighthouse in the marina. Omelets were great. Breakfast was wonderful. Made for a perfect start to the day.

I am so pleased to hear we were able to start your day off in a WOW way. One of the great things about this restaurant is truly the panoramic views and that no matter where you sit in the restaurant you can view the beauty of mother nature. Please come to visit us again soon to enjoy another wonderful meal with us. As the scenery mother nature paints changes so do our menu offerings. Our Award Winning Chef is always bringing in the freshest local farm to table products you can enjoy !

Just returned from "Fresh Salt", fabulous experiencem wonderful food, exeptional service, our server, Nancy greeted us by name, no easy
pronounciation but she was a teacher! Could not have been nicer, brought us a sample of wine when we could not decide.
Billy, the restaurant manager came by to ask if everthing was okay, when we noted that the Nantucket scallops were smaller than expected, he brought us an extra plate of them! He could not have been nicer, the service was terrific even on a busy New Years Eve, great martini, shrimp cocktail was enormous, nice presentation on shaved ice as was the oysters from PIE, Black Forest cake was enough for two and delicious.
Only disapointment was the lack of swordfish on the menu, we had heard it was fabulous, we will return and ask for Nancy!

Three of us had dinner at Fresh Salt on Christmas Eve, 2012. Two of us are gluten-free, but that doesn't seem to pose much of a problem at most restaurants these days. I had the Red Oak salad appetizer that was tasty. Our friend had oysters, and said the sauce had way too much horseradish for his liking - when he told our waitress, she agreed and said she had told the same to the kitchen staff, but the problem persisted. He had the prime rib for his main course, which was huge and tasty. My wife and I both had the salmon which, especially for the $29 price, was quite ordinary, in addition to being a small portion. There was little seasoning and little flavor to the salmon. It was served with a small scoop of a salad which provided some balance on the plate, but didn't accomplish much else. Of the 3 meals we had at different restaurants in the area over the holiday, this was the least inspired and the least satisfying. Unfortunately, I can't think of a reason to go back.
