Ate last week at the newly renovated Old Lyme Inn, which has reopening for dining. We sat in a spacious room, piano player in the next that could be dispensed with as it adds nothing. Waitress was good busboys uneven in their understanding of what was needed. Thought the prices were typical, food was pretty good but not memorable. Very New England inn, very New England well- heeled and well-behaved Saturday evening dinner crowd.
One diner had a scallop dish that needed another 2 or three on the plate to make it worthwhile. Calves' liver very tasty but not cooked as requested. It was a perfectly good place to entertain my guests, but not, from a culinary viewpoint, interesting enough to return. Perhaps it aims to please its local regulars rather than to aspire to more.
