“Worth taking a trip back”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013 via mobile

I can't say much about the food since we went here to have a wind down after dinner, the cheese platter was lovely with the wine selection. The place was lovely with shrubbery and lots of quiet time to enjoy your drinks.

The only trouble with this place is that it is difficult to go to without your own vehicle. A bit hard to find late at night so arm yourself with a car, google maps/waze and you will get there eventually!

“Not for everyone”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2013

Let me start by saying that this place is EXPENSIVE. If you are not prepared to pay P 500 to P 800 per dish, then forget about this place and move on. With that said, our group's experience with the food at Chateau Hestia was one of mixed opinions. In terms of flavor most of the food we ordered was bland and not ideally suited to the typical asian palate.

First off stay away from the pastas. If you want good pasta and willing to pay these prices for it, go to an Italian restaurant like Massimo or Buon Giorno, you'll be much happier. Also steer clear of the "sea bass" being offered. Despite the hefty price tag, this is not real sea bass, it is APAHAP (barramundi), the local cheaper version found at the wet market. This was a major point of consternation at our table since we specifically asked the waiter if it was APAHAP and we were answered it was sea bass. Although people may argue that apahap is a type of sea bass, you have to consider the premium being paid for it at Hestia and the setting (it is a European restaurant after all). The house specialty, Osso Busco Milanese, despite the numerous praises received from other reviews was severely overrated. If you've ever had really good home cooked beef kaldereta then you would also have the same opinion, definitely not worth the hefty price tag.

The singular saving grace however was unexpectedly the Kummelbraten (Viennese Roast Pork) which was absolutely delicious. It was moist, tender, juicy and flavorful. It's served with knodel (bread dumpling) and sauerkraut (pickled cabbage). Do yourself a favor and ask them to replace both with something else. I had them replace the sauerkraut with mashed potatoes, which was excellent, but I wish I did the same with the knodel. The knodel essentially tastes like wet mashed bread flavored with butter.

Dear Master C,

Thanks for your feedback on your recent meal taken at Chateau Hestia!

We are happy to hear that you liked the “moist, tender, juicy and flavorful "kummelbraten”. It seems that our adherence to the tedious slow and long process of cooking this dish is paying- off since it is continuously gaining popularity at our restaurant.

We would like to assure you that the ingredients (specifically too, the sea bass) that we use for our dishes are imported and not coming from the local wet market, hence the price level being charged. We appreciate your feedback and consider them seriously in our regular review of dishes served. We realize that every palate is different and diner expectations vary.
Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you again!

“retreat and homey atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2013

Chateau Hestia is tucked away in a forested area of Tagaytay. The room we stayed had a unique design and architecture, very spacious with a sitting area. You cross a hanging bridge to get into the room. Everything around you is made with natural materials (except the modern shower, a feature also important for pampered travellers). The room is also surrounded by lush vegetation, flowers and fruit bearing trees. The staff are friendly and kind, you can not help but feel at home. The store is well stocked with a good selection of wine, charcutterie and other European ingredients. Chateau Hestia is not about grandeur and forgotten glory days, it is about home and keeping your feet on the ground and your heart warmed and nurtured.

“European bed and breakfast- a hidden gem in Tagaytay WORLD CLASS CUISINE”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2013

My daughter and I stayed for 2 nights at the one bedroom loft last April 30 and May 1. We were the only guest at that time and we were very pampered from a hearty breakfast to opening The restaurant Tues when it was suppose to be close on Mondays and Tues. We almost called for a pizza delivery for dinner, but when the lady manager heard that she asked us what we wanted so the chef can make the fresh dough at 4:30'pm. Wow so we added steak rib eye cooked to perfection. At 8 pm, we were the special guest of the resto. Superb cuisine. Will definitely come back again.
