Description: Nestled in the heart of the historic district of South Norwalk, Connecticut, Bacchus, named for the mythological Roman God of wine, is a self-styled Italian restaurant with an Innovative twist. Our mission is to honor the traditions of the Italian kitchen by bringing back the classic bases of Italian cooking while adding a touch of new world flavors. Bacchus offers a unique approach to wine selection and consumption. The wine list was created to "take the anxiety out of choosing" a bottle. We offer an outstanding selection of wines by the glass, the wine list is presented by price point and the wines in each section are meant to offer the best value and taste in their respective categories. Bacchus wines range from $30 to $75 selections, with a reserve list with only a few wines exceeding $100. Our wine selections include domestic wines as well as Italian, French, Spanish, Chilean and Argentinean.

“Good poor service”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

Too many little things added up to a poor dining experience. Bacchus Salad was good but they left out the cherries, had to keep flagging down water guy 4 refills, salmon scarpariello with 2 large shrimp came out with no shrimp, asked to see dessert menus and waitress brings us 2 menus for 4 of us to look at and last the 2 $30 bottle of wines ordered were $32 on the bill.

“Bacchus rocks!”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

Consistently great food, fantastic and thoughtful service, interesting (in a good way) wine list. and cozy but sophisticated atmosphere.

This is one of my favorite spots in Norwalk and a real standout in Connecticut.

“Great food, service throughout visit went downhill”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

My boyfriend and I visited on a Friday night around 8 PM. The restaurant was very crowded, but I was immediately greeted by a very nice man (host? owner?), and taken immediately to a table to wait for my boyfriend to park the car. Our waitress came over & took our drink order promptly and brought our bottle of wine out shortly later. We asked a few questions about the menu & found out that they had made the pasta portions more of a "tapas" size, which I found strange considering that it is an Italian restaurant. Our waitress was barely seen after this point - the nice man that had greeted us at the beginning took our order, someone else brought our food out (I know this is common), our waitress stopped by to check on us once but after that we didn't see her for a very long time. We were contemplating ordering dessert but we waited so long to get the menus & for her to check back that we ended up leaving & getting dessert elsewhere.
Having said that, the food was absolutely delicious. The bread was served warm with a delicious bruschetta type topping, we both ordered Caesar salads which were delicious and well-portioned, I ordered the handmade ravioli with a bolognese sauce, and my boyfriend order Chicken Saltimbocca. The ravioli was delicious BUT there were only 2 (relatively large) ravioli. The pasta portions are (as I was warned) really more of a appetizer size, yet the price does not exactly reflect this. The chicken saltimbocca was a normal entree portion and was delicious.
We would be back, although the service was a little disappointing I would give it another chance for the food. BUT be wary of the extremely small pasta portions. :)
