Description: Nestled in the heart of the historic district of South Norwalk, Connecticut, Bacchus, named for the mythological Roman God of wine, is a self-styled Italian restaurant with an Innovative twist. Our mission is to honor the traditions of the Italian kitchen by bringing back the classic bases of Italian cooking while adding a touch of new world flavors. Bacchus offers a unique approach to wine selection and consumption. The wine list was created to "take the anxiety out of choosing" a bottle. We offer an outstanding selection of wines by the glass, the wine list is presented by price point and the wines in each section are meant to offer the best value and taste in their respective categories. Bacchus wines range from $30 to $75 selections, with a reserve list with only a few wines exceeding $100. Our wine selections include domestic wines as well as Italian, French, Spanish, Chilean and Argentinean.

Just terrific! Great food, great service & great ambiance! What more could you ask for! If the have the New Zealand lamb chops have them. Probably the best Meat Balls in Connecticut. Good wine list. Very enjoyable!

“Quite good. Can't imagine why we haven't tried it before!”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

After much back and forth, our party of six (none of us had ever been to Bacchus before) agreed to try it out and every one of us were wowed by the food and service. I had Spaghetti Bolognese -- the best I have ever had and I've eaten it all over the world. Absolutely outstanding. Others in our group had salmon, veal and pasta, and all cleaned their plates. There's a great wine list and some very reasonably priced selections on it. Entrees are not cheap -- most are closer to $30 than $20 -- but then, you get what you pay for. First courses, alas, are needlessly, almost laughably, pricey (e.g. a caesar salad is $12) so I doubt if most diners order anything other than entrees unless they are on expense accounts. Service was unobtrusive and polite. If it weren't for the prices of the first courses, I'd give Bacchus a five. Will definitely be returning!

“Still the best food in town plus Jazz !!”
Reviewed February 28, 2012

This is still the best restaurant in South Norwalk. The bar is buzzing, the service is great along with the food. Arnie, the owner does two things right..........he knows his customers and provides a very friendly atmosphere. I had the duck breast and that was AWESOME!!
The meatballs tell everything about a restuarant and these are the best! I went on a Thursday night and the Jazz band was very entertaining.

“A great find squeezed in between two better known names”
Reviewed February 19, 2012

The first time someone suggested to have lunch at Bacchus in South Norwalk, I was completely caught by surprise: despite having walked along Washington Steet countless times, I had never noticed this restaurant. Blame it in the very discreet sign hanging over the door - the only landmark identifying it - or the fact that, squeezed between Pasta Nostra and Strada 18, it may look like an extension of either restaurant's dining hall.

But after a great lunch, I was sold: this place stands out on its own. The food is obviously Italian but not the stereotypical Tuscan or Southern fare, rather a selection of good dishes and good tastes. After all, the owners and chef come from Latin America. The food presentation is pleasant, never over the top, and the quality of the ingredients is second to none. The room decor is a balanced blend of murals, walls, tables and the bar counter, and the see-through kitchen surely adds a kick. Service is attentive but relaxed, and the crows is a casually cool mix of couples and groups ranging from the 20s to the 50s, at least on a Saturday evening. The background music fills the air, but remains soft enough that you can easily have a conversation across the table without having to scream.

In short, Bacchus offered what sometimes may be lacking in today's restaurant scene: a well balanced experience of good food, welcoming atmosphere and friendly service. The restaurant does not try to be what it is not, but succeeds very well at being what it is. Hopefully word of mouth and good reviews will give this restaurant the visibility that it is still visually missing along Washington Street.
