“Cheesy, but clean and nice”
Reviewed September 19, 2007

A bunch of friends and I stayed here for 1 night as an alternative to staying on the Foxwoods property itself. As the Bellissimo's advertising says, "it's the closest hotel to Foxwoods" (at about 3.8 miles away or about a 5 minute drive). One note if you are booking last minute (i.e., a day or two before you are going to stay there), don't bother trying to book online and just call the hotel directly. For this particular weekend, the Bellissimo website showed that the hotel was booked solid, but when calling, they seemed to have plenty of rooms.

As a previous reviewer mentions, the exterior of this hotel bears a striking resemblance to a Hampton Inn. However, upon entering the lobby, it becomes immediately clear that it's a Hampton Inn that has been over-decorated with faux Italian murals and marble statues, giving it a sort of "cheesy" quality to it. Though, once you get past the cheesiness of the decorations, the hotel lobby itself is quite clean and well arranged (and on par with a Hampton Inn, Marriot Residence Inn, and other similar types of hotel). The free Continental breakfast buffet is also on par with breakfasts at the Hampton Inn and other similar hotels (with bagels, toast, cereal, and waffle-makers for fresh waffles).

The rooms themselves are also clean and well arranged. Each room is equipped with a flat screen TV. While there aren't any premium channels (HBO, Showtime, etc.), you do get a fair variety of all the major network and cable channels. (And odds are, most people staying here will be in Foxwoods gambling, so it's perfectly fine.)

The most surprising thing were the beds, as we all found them to be very comfortable. Coming in, I had low expectations and was figuring on an uncomfortable mattress and your typical thin "hotel" bed sheets. Instead, we were all pleasantly surprised to find comfortable mattresses and bedspreads. While these may not be at the same level as a Westin Heavenly Bed, they are certainly MUCH better than one could reasonably expect.

As for the bathrooms, they were also quite clean. The only things to note are that the regular rooms do not have bathtubs, but just shower stalls. (I'm not sure about the more "deluxe" rooms, but all of our rooms had shower stalls.) This is certainly not necessarily a bad thing, as I don't think I've ever taken a bath in a hotel bathtub, but it is a key point to note. The other thing to note is that based on the way the lighting is arranged in the bathroom, the shower stall casts a pretty deep shadow over the toilet, so the toilet is in the dark even when the bathroom lights are on. Again, not a big deal, but it does make it a little difficult to read. ;)

The free shuttle service offered by the hotel is well organized and convenient (it runs every half hour). When we were there, the hotel was using two different vehicles as the shuttle service, a regular stretch limo and a stretch SUV limo. Both vehicles were very clean and the drivers were very friendly and helpful.

All in all, we found the Bellissimo Grande to perfectly fine hotel and a great alternative to staying at Foxwoods itself.

Conveniently located to Foxwoods Casino Resort. They offered free limousine shuttle which was hassle free. The shuttle left and arrived promtly. The room rate was very reasonable and the rooms were immaculate.

The beds were very comfortable and we had a good night's sleep.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. I liked that the hotel was located a distance away from the casino as the casino was very crowded, loud, and allowed smoking everywhere.

We were going down to Foxwoods with a group of friends and didn't want to pay $200+ for a night within Foxwoods so we decided to give Bellissimo a try. We had driven by a few times while it was being built and remembered it looked nice so I checked out the website, reviews on here and called for a price. After seeing on a review here that Room Saver had a coupon I found it and ended up getting a Friday night for $109 (plus tax). With tax, the $1 safe charge our total cost for 1 Friday night was $123.14, not too bad.

Pros: clean, close to Foxwoods, limo shuttle every 1/2 hour (after 5pm, before 5pm the shuttle is every hour), affordable, free continental breakfast

Cons: bathroom really dark, AC unit does make a lot of noise turning on/off

Free breakfast included: bagels, danishes, english muffins, cereals, yogurt, apple juice, orange juice, belguim waffles, oatmeal.

We'll stay here again anytime we're staying in the area and it is cheaper than either of the two Foxwoods onsite hotels.

We stayed there on a weeknight. It is a newer hotel working out the kinks. The listed rate on websites is $129, we found a rate in a travel book (available at rest stops and Mcdonalds) for $79.

After finding this listed elsewhere, I cancelled my inital reservation through a hotel booking site and booked the $79 rate through the hotel directly. I asked them to email me confirmation of the reservation, which they never did.....On the date we were staying there I called to confirm, and they lost the reseration. My mistake I did not write down the confirmation number, I was driving when I called. Fortunately, they still had a room available.

The rooms are very clean and somewhat modern. Tempurpedic beds and a flat screen tv. The spa is overpriced and the pool is very small. The continental breakfast was ok, the toasters were not working. This hotel is comparable to a Hampton Inn, so don't expect much more than that for $79. Not bad for a few nights, but not a vacation destination.

Had planned on going to foxwoods at the last minute on 7/7/07, big mistake! We didn't even make it there, due to the fact that half of New England was visiting the casinos that day. Anyways, we saw that this hotel had a vacancy, so we figured we'd give it a try.

First let me just say that if I was given the choice between staying here, or staying at one of the two casino, I would definately choose staying at the casino; but if that isn't an option, then this place would definately be the next best thing.

Our room was nice. Comfortable bed, nicely decorated, clean, etc. The free breakfast, was nothing to write home about, but it was free, so who cares.

The staff at the front desk were not the friendliest people I've ever encountered, but they were okay. The only thing that I would like the hotel to improve is their toiletrie offerings. All they had was basic shampoo, conditioner, and soap like you would find at a days inn. Since they are trying to be nicer than that, it would make sense for them to offer fancier toiletries.

We stayed at the Bellissimo Grande for 1 night last week. This is a brand new hotel that opened in April 2007. It is located very close to Foxwoods Casino and offers a complimentary limo service that runs back and forth to the casino until midnight. It is also in a fantastic location if you are planning to visit the Mashantucket Pequot Indian Museum, which is close by.

It is an Italian-themed hotel, which is somewhat bizarre considering that North Stonington is a tiny little village, and basically what this means is Italian frescos in the lobby when you enter and slightly more appealing rooms that you would expect from the average hotel. We stayed in the basic room, called a Sicillian suite, which was a generous size and had a king size bed; the walls were covered in an attractive bronzed wallpaper, and the bathroom was well-designed. Our biggest complaint was the dim lighting - the rooms was lit only by bedside lamps and the bathroom was too shadowy and dim to allow for a good view in the mirror, such as is needed for applying makeup.

Given that the hotel is so new, our room was SPOTLESS, which was hugely appealing. There was a large, flat screen television on the wall opposite the bed. The room offered an iron, ironing board, hair dryer, and safe, although no luggage rack. Apparently, however, luggage racks are on order for the hotel. The hotel charges a daily fee for the safe, even if you don't use it.

The bed was VERY comfortable (despite it not being a tempur-pedic mattress - these are available only in the more expensive rooms). Unfortunately, the air conditioner was very noisy and switched on and off throughout the night according to the thermostate, and we found that we were woken regularly through the night by the unit switching back on. A solution to this would be to set the thermostat to a very low temperature to avoid the unit turning off at night (assuming you like a cold room, as we do!). We requested extra pillows from the front desk, which arrived at our door in moments, so we were quite pleased with the service. Breakfast was uninspiring but quite plentiful, with a choice of 2 cold cereals, yogurt, juice, English muffins, and danishes.

We paid $59 for our room, which was an absolute steal. The publicized rate for the room at this time of year midweek was $99. We got our rate with a coupon from Room Saver magazine, which contains coupons for hotels all over the northeastern US and is available free of charge at rest stops all along the major highways. If you are planning to vacation in the northeast by car, then this magazine is a must, particularly was it offers substantial savings for this hotel.

All in all, we were quite pleased by our stay here, and we would definitely return to it on our next trip to Connecticut.
