As per my Title - "home from home" - When visiting PE i only stay at the Beach Hotel..
the older members of staff and now the new ones are like a family to me.. they always look after me & my needs.. They were wonderful throughout my three week stay..
The Hotel situation is one it's major plus points, opposite the beach & in walking distance to all other amenities..

We don't stay at The Beach but are regular visitors to the bar and restaurants and have been so for the last 20 years.

In recent years there has been an annual intake of "Managers" - whose aim seems to be twofold - change the Verandah menu and try and instruct the bar and restaurant staff how to do their jobs.

Theses new "Managers" really don't have a job to do but they strut around getting under the feet of the long serving staff who know their jobs well and perform their duties to perfection.

The Verandah menu was just fine - it didn't need changing - it didn't need good and popular dishes taken off.

So, General Manager - please stop them playing with the menu and leave the bar/restaurant/Verandah staff to get on with their work.

Not a complaint, just constructive criticism

Well, where to start. I came early evening and they had problems to find my booking. Finally they did. I got a room In the annex. The smell of muld was obvious and the pillow was either dirty or full with muld. The second day I changed room. That one was much better. In both rooms I was greeted as, welcome mr. Xxxx and Xxxxx. Obviously the rooms where not for me.
I stayed three nights and the third I understood why I was sweating like never before, inbuilt plastic in the sheets. Terrible, terrible and terrible. You couldn't get rid of it.
Otherwise, the service was fantastic. The food was lovely and more than that. Best duck liver mousse that I have ever had. Steaks wonderful. The staff was very friendly and did their outmost to help you.
Will I come back, no and that is mainly because of the terrible sheets. I really want to sleep

Room Tip: Choose a room in the main building if possible

This was a terrible stay and the worst hotel experience we've had in our travels through South Africa and Namibia. We stayed here for thankfully just one night, before driving the Garden Route. We had requested a sea view room. You could see the sea if you craned your neck out of the window. The bathroom was dirty, with two used shampoo/gel bottles still on the bath, and hair in the sink. We turned on the air-con, which within a few minutes, was leaking water onto the wardrobe below. The shelves inside were badly stained and rotting, so this had clearly been a problem for some time. To be fair to the hotel, they changed our room with a minimum of fuss, to a rear facing smaller room (no sea view), and at check out, they agreed to refund R400 (after some debate). Breakfast was poor, with disinterested service and revolting tepid coffee.
The hotel is on the beachfront, with the Boardwalk casino and restaurants next door, so it's in a good position. However, the hotel is dreary, dated and in need of some serious renovation. It is not currently living up to the four star standard it claims to be.

Dear Europamonkey
Thank you so much for your valuable feedback which assists and guides us to improve our standards and level of service offered at The Beach Hotel. I am pleased to report that as soon as you had brought the leaking air-con to our manager’s attention, the room was blocked off and repairs were carried out. Our sincere apologies for not being able to move you to another sea-facing room at the time. Your comments regarding Breakfast are particularly useful and will be address with immediate effect - Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and there is no better way to kick start your day, than with a great cup of freshly brewed filter coffee.
Warm regards from a sunny Port Elizabeth,
Lin-Mare

This hotel definitely lives up to its name, as it is situated right on the beach with a great view of the Indian Ocean. We booked a suite and it was spacious and well appointed. The service was great and the food in the restaurant was delicious. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: There were two couples in our group and we each stayed in a suite, which were great. I don't know about the other rooms, but I noticed that many of them had ocean views, also.
