Our family stayed in the Beach Hotel for one night stopover before going on to Kariega Game Reserve. The hotel is in a good safe location, easy to find from the main roads and right beside the Boardwalk entertainment complex which offers cinemas/ restaurants/ casino/ kids fairground rides.

Our family room had a double bed and bunks which the kids loved. However we had a view of the delivery yard on one side and the kitchens on the other- but hey we were only there overnight and we got a good price.

Reception and breakfast service was a bit off hand and I get the impression that this place is geared more to groups who are out all day on coach tours rather than the individual traveller. That said it was clean and comfortable and not a bad size room for a family.

We took some Tripadvisor advice and skipped the chain restaurants at the Boardwalk and the hotel formal place and went across the road to Blue Water Cafe which was excellent value and very relaxed for good food and service.

As a safe and convenient place to stay it was fine, but I wouldn't want to be spending too long there or using it as a benchmark for South African hospitality and service which was much better elsewhere on our trip.

Good location opposite the beach (you need to cross a main road) and near the airport, lots of places to eat out on the beach or at the Boardwalk next door. Bit like an old fashioned UK hotel rather than a trendy SA one.

Staff were ok and sorted out the ants in the room by spraying ant killer which appeared to work, we didn't get much of a view, no balcony and you could just see the sea. Saying that it was a good start to the journey, PE is really the "friendly city" and a lot more relaxed than some of the other places we visited.

This hotel is very convenient if you want close and easy access to the airport. It faces the beach and has good parking. Our room was fairly dated but clean. Pity the air-con chiller didn't work and it merely re-cycled warm air; reception weren't interested when we told them at check-out. There is no lift so cases need to be dragged upstairs or ask the porter. The buffet restaurant we used in the hotel was only average.

we had just arrived in PE and needed somewhere to stay. This was supposed to be four star! Ha!
The reception staff were rude and unhelpful. every time we passed the front desk there were people complaining about their room. the room was overpriced, dated, a sea view where you had to strain your neck! The facilities were zero and restaurant tatty and poor. We would been much better off in the guest house down the road. Also... don't go to the tourist office - they are just as useless!

The Beach Hotel is easy to find, sitting right on the seafront overlooking the pier and beach (where the insane locals commence swimming and parasurfing at dawn). Our room looked out over the bay and was clean and well appointed (except the alarm clock which gained over an hour every day resulting in me repeatedly jumping out of bed at 6am). It had a nice bathroom with corner-bath, separate shower cubicle etc.. aircon, and a fridge (although this was empty - no minibar).

The in-house bar and restaurants are good, as is the service. Buffet dinner (and breakfast) in "The Crest" were both excellent and good value. Bolted onto the side of the hotel is a new restaurant called Ginger which had a great looking menu, although we didn't get round to trying it. Choice of eating in the area has to be 34 Degrees South, in the Boardwalk right nextdoor which serves fantastic seafood.

Port Elizabeth itself didn't seem to have masses to do in comparison to our time in Cape Town and the Garden Route, but it seems a nice friendly city and overall the Beach Hotel was a good experience. Wifi was expensive.
