“Home away from home”
Reviewed February 2, 2014

one can never go wrong with this place, its def a home away from home. Service is superb, staff friendly and welcoming. Good food and clean rooms. A nice walking distance to the beach and a nice pool to cool off on a hot summer day.
Also an ideal venue for business meeting. love this place, when in PE I know where to sleep over & not get disappointed.

Room Tip: cant go wrong with no 9. no 5 has beautiful views and very quite.

We looked very much forward to our 3 night stay in Port Elizabeth and had chosen for Isango Gate. We expected 5 star quality, but we were disappointed in several ways.

When we arrived our garden room view(room 10) was more looking out on the parking lot and over de neighbourhood than over a garden. After a long day we wanted a cold drink, but the fridge in the room was not cooling anything. The lights in the fridge worked, but the drinks were warm. The staff informed us that they would fix it the next day.
During our stay we needed wifi to arrange some other travel arrangements. There was wifi reception in half af the room (from the door until the right side of the bed). And you needed to log in after the signal was lost, which happened a lot, even if you remained in the same place, sometimes you needed to log on every 15 minutes. For each device you needed 1 code and password. Also the speed was dramatic. It took us 2 hours to complete an online booking for a car! Another minor issue was that there was no bin in the bathroom, so you had to go into the room everytime you needed to throw something away.

Together with the fact that on the website the hotel offers a lot facilities. They don't do it all themselves. We asked for a airport pick-up, and this was carried out by the shuttle service company located at the airport. Our driver did not know where our hotel was...

The breakfast was also not what we expected. There was a limited buffet (fruit, cakes, drinks, cheese). And for the eggs and toast you were given a menu where you could order your breakfast. The items had prices, so it confused us it this was included or not, since we booked the room including breakfast. We are not sure if this was booked to the room. Because after noticing that the pool was closed and there was also no wifi in the restaurant area we decided to look for another place that would give us the 5 star quality we were looking for. We stayed in the Radisson Blu for the remaining two nights.

So in the end we don't know if they calculated the breakfast to your room, because we negotiated on a total price for checking out early.

If the place was marked as a three star location, than our stay would have been perfect. But setting high standards based on the website and other reviews, we had different expectations.

First nights stay after arriving in South Africa, greeted by friendly staff shown to our very spacious contemporary room better than it looked on website. Dined in restaurant first night
food was excellent ,not massive choice but no complaints really.
Staff assisted and recommended places to eat for our second night ,breakfast very good , hotel a couple of minutes walk to beach front ideal for relaxing/walking etc.
Clive and Josephine stayed 31st Oct/1st Nov 2013.

Room Tip: Our preference is always above ground floor for views and less noise

We stayed here for one night between arriving in South Africa and driving the Garden Route to Cape Town.
The Reception staff were extremely helpful and efficient, even helping me out when I discovered I'd left some medication behind and needed a Pharmacy.
The rooms were very nice, clean and welcoming.
The meals were well Prepared, cooked and presented.
All in all a very comfortable night to relax after the horrors of changing plane at Johannesburg International!

Booked for 2 nights. Liked it so much we added a 3rd. Small, about 10 rooms, modern clean architecture, comfortable room, and near the beachfront. Friendly helpful staff and it has a small bar and restaurant. Easy walk to nearby restaurants and some shopping.

We stayed there for just one night mid August.
Our room was very spacious and nicely decorated, with partial sea view, and the bathroom was just beautiful. The kids were also very happy with their room.
We found the Staff to be well trained, smiling and friendly.
This relatively small hotel does not have a porter service - we ended up carrying our luggage ourselves as there was only one woman to help and 4 big bags to carry...
Even though, I do not hesitate to give an excellent rating.

We stayed here two months ago and found it to be of great value. This time around the rate was double and the service was shocking. On arrival they weren't expecting us, as their system had the dates wrong, we were made to feel like it was our fault, yet our booking confirmation had us on the correct date, we were not offered any apology. They found a suite for us but compared to our last stay in which were made to feel very welcome this time there was not much of that. Two of the pillows didn't have covers on and the room was freezing. Breakfast is not great either. It all sounds wonderful on the menu but doesn't as good. I think we may try somewhere else next time.

Dear Guest

I have just taken over the management of the Hotel and are really sorry to hear about your bad experience, even more so considering that this was your second time around and you already expected great service and facilities. I would like to assure you that I am currently busy with a major upgrade of facilities and services to ensure that it will be at the level expected of a 5 star facility. I hope and trust that you will give us another chance to prove that we can be one of the best Hotels in PE.
Please do not hesitate to contact me personally in the near future.
Thank you and Kind Regards
