“Fabulous Foley”

We were lucky and managed to book a reservation for the complimentary dinner on the Saturday evening before the official opening the following week. We had the most fantastic meal (Macduff Sirloin steaks with sauce etc) which were cooked to perfection. As we live locally we now go once a week for lunch and have never been disappointed. The almond tart and custard that I had last Friday lunchtime was to die for !! We are quite picky with food and am just amazed at some of the negative reviews. This is by far the best pub in Claygate in our opinion and since it's refurbishment has a wonderful atmosphere. We love the log fire section as well with leather chairs which is ideal if you just want to pop in for a coffee on a cold winters day.

I was really impressed with the refurb. I love the decor and rustic feel of the pub. The staff were friendly and offered good service, even though they were rushed off their feet. The menu was varied and the food was good. Our room was very clean and comfortable. I loved the extra little touches. I will definitely come again.

Booked 1 week in advance for four people. Poor service from the start, took ages to get waiters attention after our food order was in - he never bothered to get our drinks order in.

Starter shrimp cocktail was ok, but main courses were a disaster.

Kids pizza is not a pizza but a toasted half bap with slice of tomato and topped with small amount of cheese.

Basically a cheese toasty. All chips served with meals were overcooked and horrible. Fish was overcooked. Some Plates were cold and so to were most of the meals.

The £24 steak on the bone arrived - no bone...£100 for 4 simple meals that were cold and overcooked was a waste of money.

Peppercorn sauce had no peppercorns and seemed like an already preprepared sauce from a bottle or packet mix. Worst pepper sauce I've ever had.

I had expected high standards give the refurb and part of a chain, but seems they have rushed in with poor quality staff or lack of training. One can only assume because it really was a crap experience.

I will not return there again. Absolutely ruined my perception of the place. What a shame because if they had the right staff it could be a nice place, and their food standards need to improve. Would not recommend and wish i had gone elsewhere.

After the money spent on the refurb, one would expect Youngs would ensure the staff have a clue what to do. Unfortunately they don't. Useless would be underestimating the problem they have ahead of them. We were so looking forward to our first meal here but what a real let down. The food was mediocre at best, the children's meals had to go back as weren't fully cooked. The service was so poor it was laughable and the prices were akin to West End (£24 for a steak). That said desserts were good and the wine list was varied. To be honest the place was packed but it feels more "opening novelty" rather than anything else.. I wish them well but certainly wouldn't waste the money going back. 6 months time? Who knows will go one way or the other - I know where my money is. Please note this is a review of restaurant/ bar and not the hotel

Thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at The Foley. So nice to stay in a hotel where everything is brand spanking new. Lots of little touches that make it feel like home from home. Breakfast was excellent too. We stayed in a family room and the price was very reasonable for what you got. We have family in the area and would definitely stay at the hotel again. Thank you to the staff for taking care of us so beautifully.

Great decore, warm environment, ok food - if a little uninspiring for a pub restaurant, service terrible. I can't understand why there isn't a hugely experienced manager ensuring the hotel kicks off with a bang. Staff, whilst pleasant, are clueless and there does not appear to be anyone to show them the way. This is based on three visits to eat in both the restaurant and bar.
