Camped there last weekend and had a wonderful experience. It's a well maintained campground, not too crowded, and we spent the whole time relaxing lakeside. Beautiful setting!

Unlike many other lakes in this area, Waramaug offers a peaceful, tranquil option for those who want a quieter experience. The drive around the lake is beautiful (we often go while our toddler takes a nap in the backseat) - you'll usually encounter many people walking, jogging or biking. It's not overdeveloped - plenty of private homes with sweeping lawns - and I feel like you don't see as many motorcycles as you do near Kent Falls, Lake Candlewood, or other parks nearby.

There is a wonderful, well-maintained state park at the north end of the lake (in Kent), open from 8am to sunset, which offers a sandy beach with a roped-off swimming area, plus camping (from the weekend before Memorial Day to September 30), lake fishing, picnic areas (with barbecues), bathrooms and small changing areas, as well as "car-top boating" (non-motorboats that are small enough to carry) and canoe and kayak rentals. Pets are allowed on-leash in the picnic areas, but not in the campground or on the beach. Fees for weekend/holiday parking and campsite use, details of which are available on the park's website.

Washington and Warren both have town beaches for residents and their guests. Motorboats on the lake are heavily restricted (only allowed to launch from the Washington Town Ramp, after inspection, with a fee and a limit on non-resident boats), which not only protects the lake but also keeps it relatively quiet. Lake Waramaug Country Club, on the western shore of the lake, has a golf course, a private beach with waterfront access and clubhouse amenities. Other nearby points of interest on the lake are Boulders Inn, Hopkins Inn, and Hopkins Vineyard. A great English-style pub that's only a few minutes away is the White Horse Country Pub (in New Preston), which has a relaxing atmosphere with excellent food and service.

Haven't been on the lake itself, though there is boating on the lake. Usually just go to Hopkins Inn for dinner - great outdoor place over looking lake,

A beautiful s-shaped lake, 8 miles in circumference, is a great day visit away. Arrive early and buy a picnic lunch at Nine Main in New Preston. Then walk or bike around the lake. There is a State Park at the other end with picnic tables and kayak rentals.
