“Childhood memories in the making”
Reviewed June 17, 2012

The tiny town beaches around this lake make Waramaug the place of many a happy gathering. Bar-b-que lunches and dinners are always on the air between June and August. The boating is wonderful, and the wildlife often makes unexpected appearances.

“Beautiful Lake for Kayaking, Relatively Quiet”
Reviewed April 30, 2012

We discovered this lovely natural lake when searching for place to Kayak that had clear water and relatively few noisy boats. There are speedboats, but because of the somewhat careful restrictions provided by a manned boat ramp controlled by Washington Town, a single boat ramp with a '12 non-resident boat limit', a $25 annual town registration + $5 inspection fee), it remains a place where flat-water Kayaking can be fun.

There are nooks & crannies where you can sit & watch families of snapping turtles as well as heron & egret without getting blown out of the water by motorboats pulling water-skiers as you can on Candlewood & "Lake Zoar". Mostly these will be boats owned by lake residents, and for the most part they really do try to steer clear of oar-craft. From experience, it's a Washington CT thing (i.e. 'beyond upscale') to keep the number of 'outsider boats' off the lake via town ordinance. We've gone there for years. It's worth the 50 minute drive from where we live. We cherish any respite from the constant noise & dirty water experienced on local lakes (Candlewood), as well as the amazing sunsets.
There is a huge integrated bubbler system to keep algae down.
Entrance to the beach for the general public is available from the State Park, where there are campsites (fee), a beach, and parking (fees during summer season). The lake officially closes at sunset for non-residents. Check the Lake Waramaug Association website for details

“A Beautiful Lake and Day trip.”
Reviewed April 22, 2012

This area is beautiful and you can stop at Hopkins Vineyard to try the wines or get a bite at The Boulders or THe Hopkins Inn or just go to the state park. Riding your bike around the lake is fun also.
