“Ok, it was not perfect-but very good!”

Based on a wedding we went to here my wife wanted Tony D's for her birthday-happy wife-happy life! We all picked something different and while I do not remember everyones meal,I do remember mine.
Maybe the best veal marsala I ever had.Perfectly cooked pasta, and veal and a scrumptious sauce. We did start out with a calamari appetizer ,that was also cooked to perfection (unlike what we had recently at Anthony Js).
The only down part of the meal was one of the guests had a rolled sole dish that was boring. The owner apologized profusely and stated he wished he never threw that on the menu and went overboard apologizing.Obviously taking great pride in every dish there.
The server was MIA---alot--- Even trying to track down the bill was a tad tedious, but quite frankly it didnt ruin the evening of good food.
Comparing Anthony J to here was night and day.Tony D s meal came with salad--Anthony did not-the prices were more reasonable and the food was prepared better at Tony Ds as well. For us, it was a no contest and we would pick Tony ds way ahead of Anthony J.

“You Must Try This Place”

I can't believe I haven't written about Tony D's before. My wife and I eat here and enjoy the entertaining atmosphere several times a month usually Friday and Saturday nights. Most Saturdays there is a show performed by a very talented singer Mike Ciualla who has a range of songs and music which keeps the Bar area hopping, he takes requests. Sometimes Tony himself will join Mike for some Italian Favorites as sung by Sinatra and Dean, very entertaining, you'd think you've been taken back to the early 60's in Vegas. The entertainment is only part of the reason we attend, his bartenders are efficient and also provide some entertainment with their quick wit and unending smiles, we enjoy the food and the service too. Every night they have selections of specials meat or fish which we thoroughly enjoy. The Gravy is from a Family recipe and is part of all the pasta dishes. We find the prices including Wine and Drinks, moderate. Be warned: When the local Theater (the Garde) is having an event the restaurant is packed and loud! Get an early reservation or avoid it until after 8:pm that's when the restaurant calms down but the fun begins.Tony takes pride in his establishment and it shows by the retention he has of his servers who have been with him for years. We've held family parties here on occasion with 20 or more seating and the food always comes out on time and hot. Everyone who's anyone in town chooses Tony's. By the way, The exterior Photo of this restaurant is totally all wrong. Tonys front door is on the lower Corner of Huntington and Broad St in downtown New London , there is Also a back entrance and additional parking around back off Broad St. The picture shown looks like that of The Noank Yacht Club. Tony's is Not on the waterfront.

“$$$ for cold entrees”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013 via mobile

My boyfriend and I went to tony D's because he was craving short ribs. We called to see if a reservation was needed and were told no. We arrived around 7 and when we said told the hostess we didnt have a reservation we were seated off of the bar instead of the dining room, which would have been ok except for the lights above our table were out and it was so dark we could barely read the menu. The waitress was attentive and friendly but that was the extent of any good experience. I order a Caesar salad and a personal size tomato and mozz pizza and my bf got the short ribs. Salad was ok, nothing crazy good. The pizza looked like and tasted like $1 frozen Red Baron pizza you buy at walmart. The short ribs were good but cold cold cold. Neither one of us finished our meals, paid the over priced bill, and left. Won't be back

“Italian food at it's best”

If you like Italian food than Tony's is your place. Nice atmosphere and great waiters. Little pricey but you get what you pay for here. The calamari is out of this world.

“Would NOT recommend this place”

Went to dinner with my friends, there were six of us, the owner was rude and obnoxious. The atmosphere was very loud. Could hear the conversations of people around our table, and not at our table. the food was lousy and had no flavor, I got the Shrimp Scampi and the shrimp were tough, and the scampi was very bland...

Lousy overpriced food with an obnoxious owner.....the palce sucks....
