The sand was awesome and the boardwalk was nice. Its a nice family location for a days outing. They charge $20 a car, which was very surprising and I thought-expensive!

Ocean Beach Park is a fun-filled place for families to enjoy the sparkling water, white sandy beach and carnival rides. With a long expanse of sandy shoreline, this is a good place to relax and have fun with your loved ones.

This beach park used to be fantastic when I was a child. Beach, sand, surf snacks, rides, a midway..and now? its pretty much got nothing for attractions, and the admission and parking are a very poor value for the money. Even the mini golf stinks these days...and I love mini golf.
I sure hop the City can pull it together and turn it around, big time.

Sad, really

Ah! those summer days are coming but the masses will not be returning to Ocean Beach Park. The numbers of pleasure seekers have steadily declined. Many factors contribute to the park's demise. The town of New London, alone, is accountable for all of them.No exceptions! The beach's heyday has long since past into a memory. It's shameful that New London has let this valuable property plummet into the mire. There was a face-lift recently to the main building {by an outside concerned group} but no real change for the greater productivity to attract crowds. The place is still antiquated. There are many signs posted throughout the grounds, these state many activities one may not partake in doing. One sign as you pay would suffice " NO FUN ALLOWED".The foods sold from the vendors are barely edible. The beverages both alcoholic and sodas served are grossly overpriced.Restrooms are NOT clean. The amusement park rides for the kids are old and rusty.
A stronger police presence is needed.Drinking during the hot and humid days by boozed up buffoons have a tendency to start a fight , then a flurry a police cars have to rush through the streets to end the situation.Monday evenings when the classic car show makes their exit many do so by peeling out and racing up the side streets onto heavily populated areas.I've witnessed several instances when these speeding cars send pedestrians and bicyclists scurry for a safe haven. Not one driver has ever been cited for any violation.
There is entertainment scheduled most nights.Including various musical bands and fireworks. A complete list is available.
The beach sand is cleaned and groomed every evening. The view from any point inside the park remains a scenic photo op. James M.

During the time I was growing up in the neighborhood across the cove, and even now when I return to visit, I’ve never actually used the beach part of Ocean Beach. There is so much else to do. On this visit, we were there after the summer season was over and many of the activities were closed. Still, it was a nice place to walk and look around. I’m glad to see that they are starting to fix things up again and restore it to the way it was years ago. It had started getting shabby for a while. I understand that there is the possibility of the clock tower being place, which used to be the centerpiece of the park. Also, there are activities like movie nights and concerts during the summer, just like there used to be.

On this visit, I went along the nature trail that goes along Alewife Cove. A miniature train used to run through here, and I’m glad that the space is getting used. It’s a beautiful walk, and there are interpretive signs about the cove and its plants and animals along the way.

No visit there is complete without a walk along the boardwalk, which is 1/3 of a mile long. Even in the off-season, you see plenty of people getting their exercise in along it. It looks like the boards have recently been replaced, and it’s looking good.

Even though it was closed for the season, I had to take a peek at the miniature golf course. It is still one of my favorite miniature golf courses, even though I’ve seen plenty of others since I first played here. It doesn’t have all the bells of whistles of some of the newer courses, but it is a wonderful example of the old classic courses. The hazards incorporate local landmarks like the Nathan Hale Schoolhouse and the New London Harbor Lighthouse. The highlight of the course is the huge whale. You shoot the ball into its mouth and it comes out the other end. The whale used to spout water, but I don’t think it does anymore. I am disappointed that I didn’t get to play the course on this visit.

During the summer season, there are also rides, concession stands, pool (why do you go to a beach to swim in a pool?), and arcade. I noticed that a health club is a new addition since my last visit. I would have preferred being there when more things were open, but the timing of our trip didn’t work out that way. Still, it was nice being there without all the crowds.
