“Had a grand time”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

The hotel offers townhouse-like accommodations across a dozen buildings or so arranged like a small subdivision. Each house-sized (and -shaped) building has four rooms, I believe, of various arrangements. Mine was a two-storey unit complete with kitchen, sitting room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Front desk services and such are available at a separate building called the gatehouse.

I poked around the cupboards and there was enough in there to support a long-term stay, but the dishes and such weren't particularly nice. Everything that I did end up using was great: both beds were large and comfortable, both TVs were large and flat and both bathrooms were large, well-lit and clean.

A in-house ethernet cable worked great. Wireless was only available at the gatehouse.

Meals were also served buffet-style at the gatehouse. Breakfast (continental) was always complimentary and available, but dinner was only offered on select nights. Food was nice enough but nothing to write home about.

Only minus is the location: it's impossible to get anywhere by foot. Fortunately, there is a complimentary shuttle and it took me to and from Tweed Airport and Yale University on demand, no sweat.

This was our first time in New Haven and Connecticut and we enjoyed our stay at the Premiere Hotel. We had a penthouse suite which was clean and very well kept. The bedroom on the upper floor was open to the room/ kitchen downstairs, so you really all had to be going to bed at the same time to avoid any disturbance. The small fitness room was OK and the laundry was cheap and easy to use but could get busy. Breakfast was very good and the fresh waffle maker was well received! Of all the places we stayed on this trip, the service here was the worst. The reception staff were very blunt and repeatedly took phone calls while attending to us. Quite rude I thought. However, the kitchen/ breakfast staff were great and very attentive. I would stay again if I was in the area

Room Tip: Penthouse rooms are very good as long as you all go to bed at the same time

Traveled to New Haven from NYC to enjoy the much acclaimed New England Fall Foliage season. I stayed at Premiere for 3 nights.

The front desk attendant was not in the least bit welcoming. Her demeanor suggested that she did not want to be there and could not care less about the arrival of a guest.

In this economy, hospitality services should make damn sure that they are hospitable.

The suite was not nearly as nice as it appears on the website. The kitchen, albeit a full kitchen indeed, was severely outdated. Looks like something one would have found some 30 plus years ago.
Still, it was a major convenience to have, as I was able to prepare a few meals for myself.

The sofa looked a bit ominous. I draped a sheet over it before I felt comfortable sitting on it.

The toilet was not cleaned thoroughly. Fortunately, I traveled with Lysol wipes. I cleaned the entire bathroom prior to using it.

The king size bed was very comfortable and the large screen tv quite enjoyable.

If need be, I would stay again, but most of the staff really turned me off. As quite a few reviewers stated, it doesn't hurt to smile and greet your guests. After all, if we don't stay at your facility you are out of a job.

Also, if the little tacky sign is placed on the door announcing no need for service, the housekeeping staff should NOT disrupt the guest by knocking on the door. Is that not the purpose of the signs?

Lastly, when a guest check outs, it is customary to ask if their stay was enjoyable and extend a warm welcome for their return business.

I left with the feeling that they did not appreciate or deserve my business.

Room Tip: Definitely request a top floor room to the front of the complex.

If you are hesitating making your reservations, you shouldn't be!

We loved it here. Everything we requested or asked about was taken care of right away by staff at every level. Loved the full kitchen!! Breakfast in the mornings was great - not a huge selection but what was there was tasty; we weren't around for the evening spread, though. It was difficult with 2 of us having laptops and other mobile devices to "share" the network cable to plug in to get Internet. Wireless would be a great improvement. Maybe this is a minute point, but the soaps, shampoos and conditioners were a great size - much better than the barely-one-use ones at most hotels. Beds were extremely comfortable, kitchen had a good basic supply of cooking/baking pans and supplies, and TV had enough channels that we found entertainment when we wanted it. We used the shuttle service once, and that was a pleasant experience, too.

its not the ritz but your not paying ritz prices the location is not great BUT the room and complete kitchen suite are great. Free bus service to the train station an added bonus. Breakfast is really good and there was food most evenings for those not wishing to go out. Although we didnt use this service i think it was a really great idea.

Had to travel to New Haven on business, found Premiere Hotel and Suites on TripAdvisor, and agree wholeheartedly with everyone's favorable assessment. Great value (very competitively priced), neat, clean, spacious room (complete suite with full kitchen), thorough and conscientious housekeeping, with courteous, helpful, professional front staff (even the shuttle driver said "How long will you be staying with us [note the pronoun]). In fact, the convenient shuttle was the selling point for me, since it negated the need to rent a car. Don't be put off by the fact that it's a few miles outside of downtown; the shuttle makes this not a problem. Another plus is the complimentary breakfast and dinner most days (don't know about weekends). Good, plentiful food (think one step up from Hampton), although admittedly not a wide choice. But there are also some excellent restaurants within walking distance (Sage, for seafood, and Brazi's for Italian). Absolutely would stay here again, and recommend it with confidence. Best part: it's independently owned and operated--not part of a chain.

Room Tip: Suites in the back are a little dark; ask for one toward the front.

There is not much choice of accommodation in New Haven but this hotel offers amazing value for money. The suites are large with full kitchens. They tend to be on the dark side and the furnishings are somewhat standard but basically one gets what one pays for. I found the front desk very helpful and pleasant. The last reviewer must have just been unlucky or was moody at the time of writing! Most of everything is free too. Parking, wired internet, breakfast and a light and changeable high tea/dinner (on weekdays). Extraordinary that the hotel goes to this extent at no extra charge to the guest. After all, they needn't bother and could instead save on the expense. It is not haute cuisine, true but the soup I had on the evening I was there was delicious.

The area is not well served for dining options and driving into the centre of New Haven is awful - nowhere to park easily and confusing. So a light dinner (reception) was welcome. The manager says that they will have wifi in 2013. But there is nothing wrong with the wired service available at no charge in the rooms. Why the fuss? I am currently staying an a Hilton where there is only wired internet in the rooms at a daily rate of $12.95. Ridiculous and that is a global hotel chain. I found the Premiere Hotel and Suites perfectly satisfactory and with all these complimentary perks thrown in. Breakfast is okay and is again provided in the room rate. Extraordinary good value compared to other hotels in New Haven.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing the road and houses if possible as there was some noise in the night.
