“Good, affordable curry in the heart of New Haven”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2012

On a recent trip to New Haven, we were looking for a nice place to have dinner when we spotted an old diner with a 'Tandoor' sign on it. We thought it to be a rather unusual venue for an Indian restaurant, but decided to try it. What a pleasant surprise! The interior was clean, the staff, including the owner, very attentive and the food was delicious. We found out too late about the free parking, but will remember next time we are in town.

“Surprising diner setting offers great Indian cuisines”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2012

Situated in an old diner near the Yale campus, this restaurant offers a terrific luncheon buffet with vegetarian and meat entrees and appetizers. The chutneys are hot and delicious and the rice pudding is great. Just a nifty ambience for this delightful and inexpensive find.

“Surprisingly Delicious!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2010

Every time I walk by Tandoor there's no one inside, which is why it took me almost a year to finally go in. But I'm glad I did -- Tandoor is a hidden gem! Their food is delicious and the curries have subtle and delicious flavors. It is not particularly expensive either. You should definitely check it out!

“My favorite Indian in New Haven”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2009

I know this restaurant as Tandoor - The Clay Oven, so I'm not sure what the payphone part is.

The food is excellent, buffet is very good. Great prices and healthy portions. Waitstaff is always friendly. What is nifty is this restaurant is located in one of those old 50's style diners and they have added their own flare to it. I highly recommend you try it.

This restaurant never used to deliver, but I see that they are which is excellent. I have worked in the New Haven area for about 9 years now and this is where I go for good, authentic Indian food. It's great to know they can deliver now too.
