“Just ok, perfectly good but nothing to scream about”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2013

There are a few truly great pizza places on this earth, and after the few truly greats, there are the "fairly" great pizza places. Modern Apizza is in the latter category. Sidebar: New Haven has some sort complex about its pizza. Every place in town is trying to be the best in the world or something. But they can't all be truly great. Modern Apizza is just fairly great because it's the same pizza and service experience that you can get all over the place. I felt like I was in Brooklyn, or in one of several other pizza places in New Haven. Crowded. Lots of fancy t-shirts. Long lines. Rude / sassy waitresses with piercings and tats. Everyone so proud that they're eating DA BEST PIZZA! Ok, so I got that off my chest. The pizza at Modern Apizza is really, really good. But it's not special. It's not transcendental. But go, go, visit the place. You might feel great about yourself as you smirk and walk out past the super long line. Just remember to buy a t-shirt. Yoink!

“Very good pizza, true to the area, parking awful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2013

Bacon pizza was very tasty, garlic bread good too! The location was on a busy street, and the parking was terrible, we ended up in the gas station parking lot next door hoping our car was safe and wouldnt be towed away. The area a little busy, I dont think I would go after dark. We waited for about 15 minutes for a table on Good Friday around 1 pm but business slowed down shortly afterwards. While walking to and from the we were asked bt two different people if we had any spare change, a bit unnerving. Over all pretty good, great service and staff on the ball and accomodating! Pizza good, but I wouldnt call it the best as far as Wooster St area pizza goes.

“Still the best pizza- you can stop looking.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2013

Had an opportunity to pickup a couple of Modern's offerings last week as I was unexpectedly in the area. Same great crust, the cornmeal on the bottom, the oven char, the hand tossed thinness, the perfect ratio of cheese to sauce, this is the only pizza that tastes so good I will happily eat it cold for breakfast the next morning. We also had a plain pie with fresh tomato, garlic and basil, not the Margharita, but almost as good. I can't say enough about the deliciousness that is Modern Apizza, and when you add in Foxon Park beverages the meal reaches a whole new height of goodness. Any other Haven area pizzeria? Forgetaboutit.
