“Famed White Clam Pie a Must Eat”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

You can't visit New Haven without having New Haven-style pizza - paper-thin, crispy crust that's blackened on the bottom by coal ovens. Deservedly, Pepe's is New Haven's most-acclaimed pizzeria.

On a recent visit, my wife and I had the white clam for the first time. The clams were unquestionably fresh, while the sauce was rich with garlic. Though we ordered carry-out, the restaurant evoked a cool diner atmosphere, with two large rooms with ample booths and tables and a large, open counter in front of aforementioned coal ovens. Calling-in our order was easy, with the service both friendly and brisk.

A must visit if you're looking for pizza in New Haven!

“Sold there soul”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

I loved Pepe's for years. Would make a 25 min Pepe's run at least once a week. Now they have franchised and made their millions so who cares now. They still pack them in in New Haven but you think now they could over a few more options and just be nicer. 15 Years Pepe's was 5 stars now 3 at best. Go to Modern, better pizza and less wait.

“Good pizza--very small sodas.”

Lives up to its reputation--I wouldn't wait though. There are several good pizza places in the area.

“A must in New Haven. Great everything.”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

On Wooster Street in New Haven's Little Italy a constant flow of people tells the tale of great food at a great price. Pizza to die for and an college type feel. It' loud and fun and you will want to come back. Have been coming here for years and still great food, drink and service...parking can be a problem.

“Still amongst the very best, but inconsistant”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

Seems like the food quality is slipping, even at the original location, since the expansion into other cities within CT. Been coming to Wooster for decades, now only several times a year since I live out of town, but this recent visit was especially disappointing. The crust was thick, almost like pizza bread and the red sauce lacking. Perhaps it is no wonder that locals told me they prefer nearby Modern Apizza both for better quality and lower cost. Still Pepe's is original New Haven Apizza and the lines outside persist for the eating experience.
