Sadly, 116 Crown has fallen so far that I feel compelled to write this negative review about a place I once loved. The ambience is still pretty great...who can argue with a bar made of natural stone lit from within? But drinks that cost 15-30$ each...in New Haven? Now there's something to argue with. The drink menu is lovely to behold, and the thoughtfulness and cool ingredients (some sort of phosphate, elder flower everything, infused this and rendered that), but the craftsmanship in my mind still doesn't justify the prices. The menu is somewhat creative (warm chocolate chip cookies, sliders, charcuterie), but portions are small and again, way overpriced. The truffle fries are umami x 1000, nothing subtle about them. What was once a breath of fresh air in the New Haven bar scene now smells of bad value and an overindulged sense of it's own worth.
