This was the most exquisite meal my husband and I have had in New Haven -- or anywhere else -- in quite some time.
Every dish was excellent to exquisite. We started with Sea Vegetable Salad, which is citrus marinated arame and hijiki combined with radish, carrots, scallions and sesame seeds served over mesclun greens. It was so delicious and interesting, one of the highlights of our night.
We also ordered an appetizer called Gobi Manchurian, which is cauliflower tossed with Indian seasonings, breaded with chickpea flour, fried, and finished with sweet and spicy tomato sauce and fresh cilantro. Was that yummy!!! . . . probably the best dish of the night. It was rich and sweet, but not too sweet, with lots of crunch. A wonderful juxtaposition of flavors and textures.
Our main course was Pistachio and Herb Encrusted Tofu with Corn Cake. Fresh herb and pistachio encrusted tofu, pan seared corn cake, and sautéed greens with red pepper and jalapeno relish and cilantro chutney. The encrusted tofu was a bit of a disappointment; it was quite soft and a bit bland and the crust was soft instead of crunchy. We were happier with the flavorful pan seared corn cake underneath the tofu. The spinish, relish and chutney were delicious.
We also ordered a side order of asparagus and it was most flavorful.
The ambiance of the restaurant is very pleasant and calming. It wasn't very crowded when we were there. The service was prompt and polite.
