Named for the Long Wharf port along the New Haven harbor, this theater was build in a vacant warehouse space. LWT creates a home in New Haven for regional theater where you can see diverse and entertaining performances. Saw "Crowns" where hat queens rule....The talented cast told stories complemented with uplifting gospel music. This play definitely warmed the soul.

Childrens' programs, play workshops and special events round out the theater's offerings.

The stars of Baskerville are the wardrobe mistresses who justly took a bow with the cast.at the end of the play. This farcical adaptation of teh Sherlock Holmes story had plenty of yelling, noise, closing and opening doors, and cast members playing many roles, Unfortunately, Despite all of this action , The Second Act dragged on until Holmes mercifully solved the mystery. The play was a tour de force fo rthe behind the scenes company. There were so many costume changes by the same cast members that it was almost impossible for the audience to keep them all straight. At one point the play made fun of the multiple roles. Ultimately, if you like farce and how it all fit together, this play is for you. It just didn't happen to be for me. The theater in in the round aspect of Long Wharf's main stage posed some challenges for a play with so much action. The device of many doors signifying different locations and even serving as backstage was interesting.

Saw Sisters' Christmas Catechism at Wednesday matinee and relived by Catholic school education -- but this time I was able to laugh throughout the entire performance. I think you need to be a certain age to enjoy this humor as schools are no longer run like the way they were when I was a kid. Grab an old friend and make time to chuckle about the past at the Long Wharf Theatre, you won't be sorry.

We recently attended LWT to watch The Most Beautiful Room in New York. Quite enjoyable. Good music. Acting was good. It made for a pleasant evening. The theatre is wonderful. Small venue where all seats are great.
