If your in the area don't miss it . Start your day early and visit Beardsley Zoo while your at it . The zoo is small too but extremely nice as well . The museum is small but you can walk the grounds and relax . The homes surrounding the campus have beautiful architecture and the museum gives you impression you are entering a cathedral in Europe . You can make a complete day between the two and fun for all ages .

A family group with mom and dad, two dinosaur obsessed little boys, a blasé preteen, a 20 something cousin who likes to travel, and grandma hit the museum one summer afternoon. It is not particularly friendly for strollers or wheelchairs, while there is an elevator it is super tiny and tucked into a tight niche. We were here to see the dinosaurs but were also interested in the special exhibit on Egypt that the museum was currently hosting. The Egypt area was interesting although the hubby was a bit dismayed that part of the exhibit was modern artist's representations of Egypt. The kids liked the computer program that allowed you to learn how mummies were made. We headed upstairs to check out the other exhibits next, saving the dinosaurs for last since the little guy was asleep in the stroller. All the girls liked the good sized exhibit of the gems and minerals. We were disappointed that we weren't allowed to bring the stroller into the kiddie play area. A lot of the upper exhibits were a bit on the dated and dusty side. Finally we headed down to the dino hall which was pretty cool. I liked the row of triceratops skulls and the big sauropod was impressive. The kids also liked the huge turtle shell. Finally we wound our way through to the gift store. Overall, everyone had something that they really liked but my final impression was that it really needs a good overall to bring it up to date, more interactive, more child friendly, etc.

My mom finally had the opportunity to take me to the Peabody Museum on our recent visit to New Haven. She couldn't believe that nothing had changed since 1955. We were disappointed in the uninspired exhibits and poor lighting. Yale might consider allocating development funds towards revitalizing this former community gem.

Lot of fund to visit and see the stegosaurus. I could see this being a great place to introduce kids to museums of natural history because it's smaller than big-city museums so it's easier to manage. A great way to spend the afternoon!

I have been to this museum several times since I was a child myself. Although it's on the smaller side as far as museums go, it always has so many interesting things and new exhibits. And the low cost to get it is always nice when you are looking for something to do that doesn't cost a ton.
