“Gothic wonderful buildings”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

Loved walking around at night. No crowds, just a few students. Not like a NE college, looked more like a British university.

“Wonderful architecture !”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

The Yale campus architecture is breathtaking !
Plan at least half a day to stroll around and enjoy this place.
There are many parking spaces on the streets with parkmeters; some of them needing coins, others accepting credit cards. The time limit allowed also vary from a street to another.
Start by the visitors center, located at 149 Elm st. (to pick-up a free campus map and read a little about Yale), then be on your way to great architecture.
The 4 streets not to be missed: Grove, College, Elm and York.
Try to enter every building you can and allowes you to, so you can appreciate also the interior architecture.
A good stop is the Woolsey Hall (500 College st.): enter it and peek at the commons (one of Yale's cafeteria), it's worth it.
An other great building is the Harkness tower, a 216 feet high Yale icon.
A great view of the tower is from the Old Campus Courtyard, which by itself is interresting to see.
The Sterling Memorial Library, Law School buildings and Phelps Hall are also great buildings to see.
We were disappointed of the New Haven Green (across from the visitors center) with it's 3 churches (nice old churches but)... not much to see there but many homeless people.
The Yale Bookstore for souvenirs (more expensive than every university stores I've been) is located on Broadway.
NB: If you have more time and are into visiting museums, Yale has a good offer also.
You won't get bored walking the streets of the Yale campus !

Yale is beautiful. The campus has a visitors center with history and information. You can walk around and see things like the art gallery or the Gutenberg Bible in the Rare books and manuscripts library. Be careful! We overheard a security guard say that someone had been assaulted that morning. Yale was built and then the town around it. The community around Yale is a dirty ghetto. Check out the Yale bowl!
