Owner description: Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest college art museum in America. The Gallery’s encyclopedic holdings of 200,000 objects range from ancient times to the present day and represent civilizations from around the globe. FREE and open to the public. On December 12, 2012, the Yale University Art Gallery celebrated the grand opening of the renovated and expanded museum. The expanded Gallery transforms the visitor experience of both the museum and its esteemed collections. The project united the 1953 modernist structure designed by Louis Kahn, the 1928 Old Yale Art Gallery, and the 1866 Street Hall into one continuous structure while maintaining the distinctive architectural identity of each.

A large and beautiful museum, with handsome architecture from different eras, and amazing variety of world class art, from ancient to impressionist to modern. Allow several hours. And it's free! Highly recommended.

My wife and I go to the Gallery about once a year. It has quite a variety of art. The French Impressionists alone are worth the trip. The parking is always a bear when Yale is in session. Go in the summer or on holidays. It's worth the trip

This museum was an absolute surprise to me. Who knew such a great museum was only 30 minutes away. I was beyond surprised to see such wonderful works of art, a great array of artist and interesting artifacts and sculptures. Going beyond the art, the architecture of the building is amazing.

If you are in the area it is a must see or if you live close by, it is a true hidden gem to go and visit. I also found it easy to get to and less of a hassle then going into NYC to visit museums. This will not be my one and only visit, I will return a number of times.

Also, the museum is free.

I was impressed with the extent of the Yale collection, especially the Greco /Roman section and some of the modern and classical European galleries. I found the Asian section lacking especially in Tibetan, Korean and Japanese art. The staff was very helpful and one guard guided us to some things I might have overlooked. Great collection
