The Roger Sherman is an institution in New Canaan--it's been there for years. 11 of us went for drinks after an interment service in a nearby cemetery. We arrived just after 3 p.m. on a Monday afternoon, just as the bar was opening. We were the only ones there for the next 2.5 hours but the bartender and assistant were terrific--very attentive. The inn and grounds are beautiful. We didn't stay for dinner (there is only a bar menu on Mondays) but beware that this is a place frequented by extremely wealthy people who don't even blink at $50 entrees and $100 bottles of wine. The bar tab was reasonable for 11 people, however. Check the menu out online before you go to be sure it's not beyond reach. We have never dined there so can't comment on the quality of the food. There's also a charming inn for those looking for something other than the usual Hilton or Doubletree.
