“Needs to be reclassified as Motel instead of Hotel.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2012

I do not frequent La Quinta locations, however I do travel five days per week. This hotel, and I use the term loosely is in need of customer service orientation, carpet cleaning, a correctly done Peel, sand, prime and paint job. It is terribly noticeable that paint has been caked on top of the last hundred coats. Elevator jumps while moving- in need of service. Carpets are dirty, literally left black on the bottom of my new white socks. Poor air circulation through ventilation system. Very thin walls. Location is questionable. Above an all you can eat Chinese buffet, next door to the police department, and across the street to the low income budget grocery store. Mediocre. I asked to see a room before checking in-house the lady refused and told me to look at the photos in the lobby. Just really needing better guest service training.

First the positive:
The hotel is fairly inexpensive ( $69 ) for the night.
The beds were fine and the bathroom clean
Staff at front desk friendly and efficient.
Rooms are spacious

Now the negatives:
Came with a group - 4 out of the 5 rooms smelled of cigarette smoke. I had one of them.
The halls and main lobby have a musty smell.
The rug - furniture have seen better days.
One of the two elevators seems to have mechanical issues
Breakfast was poor

As far as the neighborhood goes, hotel is situated a block or so from a fairly run down main street. Didn't see any issues at all at the hotel. There is a large strip mall about a 3/4 of a mile away. D*Donuts- Rite-aid - McDonalds. I was approached for some spare change coming out of D*Donuts, but never felt threatened.

So if you are in the area and need a clean room go there. Do not expect much and do not wander from the hotel.

We needed an overnight accommodation in the Hartford area and chose La Quinta. The price was right and the location easily accessible. The room exceeded our expectations- it was bright, spacious, and very clean. The king bed was very comfortable. There was also a small refrigerator and microwave- always convenient! The morning breakfast offered a good choice of breakfast foods. We would have liked to see more fresh fruit. The location was close enough to major roads but very quiet- not right under the freeway. Nancy, at the front desk, was very helpful with directions to our destination. Overall, a great experience.

Room Tip: The location would suggest that any room would meet the travelers' needs.

This was a pretty good hotel for a stop over before going home to NYC.

This is a hotel to grab a clean room, with a clean bathroom and get a good nights sleep.
The front desk when we checked in and out were friendly. The hotel and room was clean. The cold breakfast the next day was okay and it did get us off to a good start.

The fitness room had a treadmill and recumbent bike, there was a simple business center and well stocked soda/snack machines available. Easy to get to off of highway 91.

I will stay here again.

Room Tip: The room we had was fine, but bring some air freshener. The room smelled a little stale when we fir...

It was obvious that LaQuinta cared about this facility. The lobby was bright and even the carpets were new. People at the desk were friendly. Room was huge even though the elevator was a bit noisy on the trip up to the room. Plenty of parking both front and back. Convenient to CT state roads. Short car ride from both Hartford CT and the Berlin, CT, AmTrak station. Good motel-style breakfast. Ice machine was in working order. Would definately stay there again. Wait until you get to Hartford to get gas - Shell station down the block from the Inn was a bit steep.

I have been coming from out of state for the last 5 years every other month or so and it is a shame how quickly it is spiraling towards becoming an uncomfortable dump.
It has always been situated in a terrible location (both in accessiblity to key areas around town as well as how rough the neighborhood is...even though it is next to the New Britain Police Department.)
I used to see many families staying here but now mostly contractors staying here because it's about as cheap as any Day's Inn or no-name motel as well as hung-over young folks who I hear partying all night.
The continental breakfast situation has always been minimal (which is completely acceptable given the low rates) but they've obviously cut costs lately and have gotten rid of the kitchen help as it seems as though the front desk clerk is responsible for maintaining the food, drinks, and utensils. It seems as though they're always out of something; boiled eggs, OJ or milk, or spoons, etc...
I'm reserved for 4 days but I'm already shopping for somewhere else today. Sadly, La Quinta has the best rates for a mid-scale hotel in Hartford but the rate is no longer their competitive advantage because they're no longer a mid-level hotel and are direct competition to the Day's Inns and Super 8 hotels.

Horrible seedy location. Seems more like a halfway house than a hotel. There are people cooking on woks in the back parking lot and a contingent of smokers hovering outside the rear door, which they keep slamming shut as they go in and out constantly. Room is ok but after this I wouldn't trust a La Quinta ever again. Zero out of 10.
