“100% dog friendly!”
Reviewed June 1, 2010

This was our first time staying at a Residence Inn and the first time we brought our dog to a hotel. It was great. Even though they charge a one-time fee, it beats leaving your dog in a kennel. And since our dog is blind, we couldn't do that to her. They do not require crates in the room, only that you leave a cute magnet on the door stating the dog is in the room, this way housekeeping will not enter, which was fine, because our room was so clean it didn't matter. Another thing is, it's 100% smoke free, so pet owners don't get "stuck" in a smoking room. They have a great area to walk you dogs with doggie bags provided. There were a lot of magnets in our section so you can see there were other dogs there. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone - it was clean, breakfast was great, it seemed quiet even though the parking lot was full most nights, , the rooms have a fully equiped kitchen including fridge with ice maker and dishwasher, so any family on a budget can utilize the kitchen for cooking or just bringing back leftovers. Don't miss out on this great place in Mystic!

We went to Mystic Seaport for Memorial Day Weekend, (May 2010). I selected this hotel because of location, the fact they accept pets and being an all suite hotel. Upon arrival we were booked into room 117. Nice enough room however after a very long trip I decided a short nap was in order before hitting the local Casinos. The moment I layed down it sounded like bowling balls were being dropped continuously overhead. It was children on the 2nd floor running and throwing themselves on the floor in the hallway. I called the front desk, they took my concerns to heart and said it was not acceptable and they would call the room directly over ours. They did and the noise briefly stopped. I suddenly realized the head of the bed was making a roaring sound. It stopped then started again after a moment or two. Long story short....DO NOT STAY in room 117. The "motor room" to the elevator shaft is directly behind the wall of that room. It is horrible. I went down to the front desk (nightgown and all). The manager was there and without question, immediately moved us to the second floor. Ah peace at last. He was apologetic, he said their goal was for the guest to have an excellent experience and we did. The rooms (yes even horrible room 117) were spotless. Tastefully decorated. The appearance of the cabinets and furniture were a littled used but perfectly nice. The bed was crisp and wonderful and comfortable. Breakfast was outstanding. Hot buffet and very well attended. From eggs to sausage, waffles, cereals something for everyone. The only thing I can say negative is that we are delighted he hotel is Pet Friendly and our pets were very welcomed. However, pet rooms require 100.00 per stay nonrefundable pet fee. I think it is a tad high. I am used to paying of course, but 100.00 is the most we have ever paid. Our room is spotless when we leave with never a sign of a pet. I am sure that is not always true for rooms with pets and a more thorough cleaning is required, however, I saw the state of the room the "bowling ball" children were in and the room was trashed. I think they should also charge 100.00 for children. No one knew our pets were in the room. We were aware of the screaming running children the entire 2 days we were there. However because of good sound proofing they did not disturb us inside of our room. The young lady from housekeeping was so friendly and pleasant, as were all the staff. So a tad pricey but this hotel promises SERVICE WITH A SMILE and they mean it. The manager on duty for the afternoon made what could have been a nightmare of a stay into an outstanding stay. We will return to this hotel again, and I will recommend it to anyone I know going to that area without hesitation.

Took my wife there for her birthday last February as a surprise. Staff was incredibly friendly. Not much to do there during the winter season, however we went to both casinos (foxwoods & mohegan sun) & had a great time. Room was nice - pretty average (about 3 stars). Probably the best part about the place is it's location...plenty of restaurants and boutiques nearby. Would recommend.

We went for an overnight stay at the Residence Inn in Mystic to enjoy some family time and the kids could get some energy out in the pool. We were pleasantly surprised to find a full kitchen, living room with a pull out couch and a separate bedroom for us parents! The pool was warm and clean, the room was great and roomy and the full breakfast buffet in the morning was the cherry on top! If you add the local attractions to it, def. a place to stay for out of town visitors and you won't step on top of each other in the room!

We stayed the week between Christmas and New Years in the 1 bedroom with 2 kids - 4 and 3. The room was clean; staff friendly and breakfast each day was great. I will say that we frequent Residence Inns often as we like the 1 bedroom option and ability to have a separate room from the kids. The room size was on the smaller end of most RI that we stay in - it was quite cozy - but didn't matter as we sill had the ability to close the doors once the kids went to sleep and we didn't spend a lot of time in the room.

Also - the rates from Marriott were a bit high - but we checked Expedia the day before we traveled and were able to save $40 PER NIGHT by booking the reservation through them and paying in advance (note: only 1 day in advance). This made it well worth it.

The staff and accomodations were excellent. This was the first time in several years that our family had been able to get together in one place to celebrate grandchildren's birthdays (six in December) and the Holiday season. The arrangement of suite rooms, swimming pool, hot tub, game room and common areas for relaxing made our stay a truly memorable one. We were able to have a local restaurant cater food for a mid-afternoon birthday party and hired local staff to help with serving and cleanup. This was a somewhat unique use of the facility and management could not have been more supportive. Very attractive setting as well. Could not have asked for anything more!!

We stayed here two night over Thanksgiving.
The Good:
Very nice breakfast- truly a hot buffet with eggs, sausage, otameal, and pancakes (daily). French Toast / Biscuits were on alternatiing days. Granola, cereal, fresh fruit available every day. (Bananas weren't too good but apples and cut fruit were fine)
You'd get fresh juice and real cutlerly at a HIgher Category Marriot - and you'd pay 10 per person as well; this was fine for a family vacation!

Pet friendly- saw a few of them; if you are allergic you might want to stay elsewhere. We've stayed at a few Marriots and for a pet friendly place this one seemed pretty clean.

1BR unit is reaonably sized, with a full kitchenette.

The Not so Good: GOOGLE MAPS WARNING: it's exit 90 not exit 89! Despite typing in the address correctly, Google Maps put us on a local street (Whitehall Rd instead of Avenue). Our GPS apparently was OK. Keep that in mind.

Sofa bed, as expected, was a poor sleep for adults. Light children should be fine on it.

Minor inconvenience: door knob on the bedroom fell off- these are double doors so it wasn't a major problem.

11 am checkout is a bit early- though we received standard 12 noon checkout on request.

I recall this going for 139 a night when we booked- we used points as a category 3 hotel. This was about right- probably a category 2 or 3 in a non tourist destination, and then because it's Mystic, it got bumped up to the higher end.

The comfort inn next door looked ok too, however, and it seems to cost much less. If budget is an issue, you can look into that (warning: we didn't go inside, just viewed it on the way out as the parking lots are connected).
