“Wonderful Place To Stay”
Reviewed October 16, 2006

My wife and I stayed at the Mermaid Inn October 7th & 8th, 2006. We booked our room over the telephone. We reserved the room by sending the owner, Josephine, a deposit of $100.00. The Mermaid Inn is not capable of accepting credit cards so you can pay with a check or cash. Josephine took our check with no problem. Our stay at the inn was wonderful!! Josephine was the most accommodating innkeeper we ever met. The room was very nice. There are four rooms at the Mermaid Inn and we never heard anyone else during our stay. Josephine provided chocolates, cognac, soft drinks and botled water in our room-all complimentary. She restocked our room each morning. The bed was very comfortable. Upon our arrival, Josephine posted the menu for the next day's 3 course breakfast. She asked when we wanted to eat breakfast and wanted to know if we had any problems with any of the items listed on the menu. Both of the breakfasts we had were delicious. Josephine also had delicious homemade cookies available around the clock. She made popcorn each night to take back to our room.

The Mermaid Inn is a wonderful place to stay. You can walk to restaurants, downtown Mystic, and Mystic Seaport. Josephine stated that she does not spend a lot of money on advertising-she puts her money toward the comfort and extras for her guests. Her money is well spent. I highly reccommend the Mermaid Inn.

This B&B is fantastic

Josephine has done an impeccable job to run a homley and pristine accomadation.

We could not of asked for more in our stay, the b&b is central to the town and has every creature comfort you could ask for.

upon our arrival from manhattan we straight away felt as though we had come out of the hustle and bustle into a tranquil environment.

we arrived mid evening to fresh baked cookies and popcorn with a selection of dvds to chill out with in our room.

the rooms were beautifully decorated with a fridge stocked with fine cognac, soft drinks and choccies.

brekkie was amazing, 3 course banquet!
my favourite was the homemade granola and lobster quiche...certainly set us up for the day...

we would then come back after a long day to a freshly baked pie!

what more could you ask for!

Unfortunately we did not get to meet Josephine who owned the inn, but we did communicate through messages and her lovley friend made us more than welcome......

to top it off we were sent off with a package of cookies, granola, fruit and water!

This charming home has 4 guest rooms, all beautifully and uniquely decorated. Three have en suite baths, (the 4th has a private bath without a shower adjoining just outside) newly remodeled in granite. Gorgeous.

The location couldn't be more perfect - walking distance to the downtown area (remember "Mystic Pizza"?), seaport, and several wonderful restaurants - all recommended by our marvelous host. The breakfasts were nothing short of decadent, served (weather permitting) on the lovely gazebo. Homemade cookies served at tea time had us all requesting the recipes, and there was brandy and chocolates in the rooms, as well.

There is an attention to detail here - from lovely soaps and shampoos to a variety of books and movies - to make one feel pampered. Our host and her staff were most welcoming but never obtrusive - a fine distinction many B&B's miss.

I would return and recommend the Mermaid Inn in a heartbeat.

We stayed in Mermaid Inn for my husband’s birthday weekend. It was an amazing weekend. Josephine is incredibly nice and thoughtful. Breakfasts were just delicious, and all the recommendations for food, biking, and shopping were just great. I would come here again and again. The B&B is all you can dream of.

Loved it, loved it, loved it. We stayed 2 nights over the July first weekend, and I must say, this could easily be one of the nicest B&B's I've ever enjoyed. Josephine is warm and gracious, present but not overly so. The B&B has just 4 guest rooms - each different, each wonderful.

We stayed in the 'blue' room - and the paintings in the bathroom have to be seen to be believed. Charming.

Food was delicious. Breakfast was 3 full courses, nicely prepared, and wonderfully served out on the porch. There's a corner view of the Mystic River - but that's not as key as the surroundings. Lovely gardens, breezes from every direction, and pleasant company. Wonderful.

Then, in the evenings, Josephine offers delicious snacks that put every other B&B I've stayed at to shame. Home made cookies that blow you away, fresh cherries (it was cherry season when we were there), and when some other guest and I were sitting around chatting - she came out to offer popcorn as well.

My husband, not the biggest fan of B&B's in the world, even agreed - He'd stay at the Mermaid Inn again - not a question.

This inn is an enchanting surprise. It is nestled in a residential area of Mystic within walking distance to great restaurants, downtown Mystic and the Mystic Seaport Museum. We parked our car on Saturday night and didn’t move it until it was time to depart. Our host, Josephine, was very gracious and accommodating. The Inn has been beautifully restored and the Mermaid ‘theme’ reigns supreme. It is impeccably clean and very comfortable. The Gazebo was a pleasure; having breakfast there every morning and even enjoying hot tea and hot coffee while watching the rain fall one afternoon. Every time you came through the front door, Josephine had a treat for you; the Oatmeal/Chocolate Chip Cookies are to die for and the late night popcorn was a nice treat to end the day. If you must bring the office with you; a wireless internet connection is available. A great find!

The Mermaid Inn of Mystic

Five stars! I have stayed in B&Bs all over the world, and I must say that my time spent at The Mermaid Inn of Mystic has been my favorite experience. Every room of this historic Sea Captain’s home has been lovingly renovated to a warm, charming and beautiful bed and breakfast. Every room has hand painted whimsical mermaids with an underwater motif. Some of the finest mural work I’ve seen. One should visit just for the artwork alone.
Each room is appointed with all the amenities you could imagine, and then some. For example a crystal bowl full gourmet chocolates, next to a fine sherry in a carafe placed next to bottled water. Each room has a high-tech TV with cable and a dvd player. All of the rooms are individually decorated with fine linens and bed throws. The bathrooms are state of the art with recessed hot lamp heaters, towel warmers and imported italian marble surrounding a bidet. Luxurious, sophistication, decor, and not to mention the gourmet breakfast made to order. I didn’t want to leave. When I visit Connecticut again, I will treat myself to the Mermaid Inn in historic Mystic.
