“Great little hotel, Mystic is gorgeous”
Reviewed June 14, 2008

Honestly, pulling into the carpark of this hotel wasn't good. It looks like an old fashioned motel with cars pulling right up to the doors of the lower rooms.

Once we'd entered reception though, we realised that we'd be okay. The staff were great and really helpful and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Make sure you ask for an upstairs room though, or your door will open onto the carpark.

The rooms had a fridge and microwave, which is really handy if you want to make your own breakfast. The hotel is across the carpark from the Economo Lodge and that looked very cheap and nasty, the HoJo is much better.

Mystic is a gorgeous little town and I'd highly recommend it. We loved our time there.

You must try and eat at Kitchen Little, they only do breakfast and lunch and their food is wonderful - great seafood.

I went to the HJ hotel in Mystic with 6 friends for a "girls" weekend away. The rooms were large and the beds very comfortable. The staff was amazing!! These days you're lucky if you get a hello beyond what they are required to do; these ladies were awesome! Juanita was exceptionaly great!! We appreciated that most of the shops and restaurants we were looking for were just across the street also. We didn't need to drive at all. The pool was clean, beautiful , and WARM:) We all would highly recommend this hotel to any and all! The location is right off the highway and is centrally located to many local attractions. Thanks again for a great stay!

Stayed here in July 2006 and it still is one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. I am not one to post negative T.A. reviews unless I really think the hotel is deserving of it. Well after staying here for 3 days in the summer of 2006 I can safely say choose another hotel before this mess. The rooms smelled of smoke (even though they said non smoking), the sheets had stains on them and the pillow were yellowish (even though they were suppose to be white). I sacrificed a t shirt and wrapped it around my pillow so I wouldn't have to sleep on this obviously unclean pillow. The pool is inside and the room has no open windows which just makes for a hot chlorine smelling room. It is across the street from a Friendlys which is good I guess since it gets you out of this dirty hotel for food and a break from the 1 star environment of the Mystic HoJo. Try the Holiday Inn as an alternative.

this review was dated from a 2006 visit that was not a pleasant experience for this guest.
we work very hard on a daliy basis to update rooms constantly. We have recently put in new mattresses and box spring on the first floor, we are also in the process of bathroom renovations as well as updating all the rooms. we are just about finished with replacing the pool room and updating the pool area. so please don't let this review from 2 years ago be used to sway you against staying with us and give us the chance to show you that we are a great hotel

We stayed two nights at this property. It was not our first choice, but was one of the few places available for the weekend that we wanted to go to Mystic. We were a bit hesitant after reading the other reviews regarding the musty smells in some rooms. While it appears that the hotel may be making some efforts to correct this problem (dehumidifiers in the corridors and a humidity control unit in the room we stayed in), there was definitely a distinctive odor, although it was somewhat masked by a strong air freshener. Overall, we found it tolerable and not unbearable. For the money, we thought the room was good sized, we had a fridge and microwave (both of which were clean). Other than some highway noise, the room was quiet. The location was convenient to what we wanted to do in Mystic and for the amount of time we were actually in the room (basically to sleep and shower), we thought it was an okay stay. Would we stay there again? Well...we would probably try to find another option, but if nothing else was available, we probably would in a pinch. Our only big complaint was that we were told that the pool would be closed for renovations. The hotel called us before our stay to notify us (which I thought was good customer service) and also mentioned it when I called to confirm our reservation. However, when we got to the hotel, the pool was open and we had a very disappointed little boy on our hands as we had not packed his swim suit. We were also told that if the pool had been closed, we could use the Best Western pool-this would have been good to know.

Two of us went up to enjoy the chowderfest at Mystic Sea Port. Check in was quick. Lobby looks nice and smells clean but after the lobby, it reaks of mold. We asked for a non-smoking room and when they sent us to #137 it smelled totally of smoke. Clerk sent us to see another room to see if we'd like that better (Rm 118) next to pool. That room also smelled disgusting. Bathroom had mold and the beds felt like twins and not queens as suggested and paid for. I can not reiterate enough how bad this room smelled. They should demolish this building and build a new HoJo's after reading all the reviews and personally living it. Location is right next to I-95 and convenient to Mystic Village. Friendly's is next door and not very desireable either. Dunkin Donuts across the street and Starbuck's up Coogan's Blvd about a 1/4 of a mile. Just trying to point out a few positives. Anyone who cares about personal hygiene should rethink this hotel.

We pride ourselves in keeping a clean and comfortable hotel. All of our rooms are updated constantly, the rooms in the above review do indeed have 2 queen size beds.
We also realize that we can not please everyone every time. But we will always go above and beyond to try.

The room was a no frills, well maintained room. The bathroom was clean with the exception of mildew on the grout around the tub bottom. That could have easily been taken care of with all the cleaners availabe today. The rest of the bathroom was ok. No breakfast, but restaurants within walking distance.
