“Wanted it to be nicer...”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

The Whaler's in is so pretty from the outside, has such a lovely and welcoming staff, and is so well located to downtown Mystic, but the rooms were underwhelming. They felt like upscale motel rooms (the bathroom especially, with a pump dispenser in the shower and motel-like soaps). They were poorly lit, so when we wanted privacy and closed the curtains, it was somewhat depressing to be in the room during the day. Better lighting, fancier soaps (or no soaps at all), toning down the floral rooms, and white adirondack chairs (to replace the green plastic chairs on the pretty landings) would do wonders for this inn with so much potential!

Room Tip: I preferred the rooms without the floral... Felt cleaner and more updated.

I wanted to take a moment and thank you for taking the time to review the Inn. I was very happy to hear the staff was "lovely and welcoming." We do pride ourselves on providing superior customer service. I welcome your suggestions and encourage guest feedback. They inn has been making improvements throughout the year and will continue through the winter season. Your suggestions will definitely be discussed and considered. Thank you again!

Stayed 2 nights on the 2nd floor.
The staff was ok, the room breakfast, and parking were ok.

The shower stall was about 30 inches each side -- do not drop your soap!!
Could have used more water pressure.

Good central location for Mystic area.

Our sincere apologies that you found your room's shower stall to be uncomfortably small. Due to the historical nature of our building (c.1910), the architecture restricts the bathroom size for some of our guest rooms. We do hope in a future visit to Mystic, you will return to the Whaler's Inn and try one of our many rooms that have tub/shower combination or whirlpool tub. Please feel free to request one of these particular rooms when booking. Hope to welcome you back in the future.

We stayed two nights at The Whaler's Inn (Thursday & Friday). Our 3rd floor room in The Hoxie House was very nice and comfortable. The jacuzzi tub was fantastic, and I'm not someone who normally takes baths. Plenty of hot water and nice and roomy. The Taste of Mystic was going on Friday and the hotel location couldn't have been better. We walked a lot and only drove to the Aquarium because I recently had foot surgery and didn't want to over do it. There are no elevators so pack light - or bring a strong person along to carry your bags!

Room Tip: The deluxe king rooms in the Hoxie House have nice jacuzzi tubs.

The location of this place is unbeatable. The rooms are spacey, very clean, and really comfortable. The breakfast was just right! It was a fresh continental breakfast in a very bright room/with all of the small details, friendly staff, and very clean.
The staff had excellent restaurant recommendations for dinner.
The perfect experience at this hotel, made us really love the town, and we would love to come back.
If you are looking for a place that has great location/charming rooms/friendly staff then this is your place.

Only down side was the shower on our room that was extremely small, but all of the other details made up for it.

We also stayed in a king bedroom overlooking the drawbridge and shops in downtown Mystic. The linens were quite nice. Very quiet despite the busy location. Parking pass helped tremendously since parking off site is scarce. Breakfast was better than expected, but the pre-cooked eggs a bit scary. Go early if you want fresh fruit...they don't replenish. Friendly staff.

Room Tip: Upstairs of Hoxie House was great!

If your traveling to Mystic this would be the place to stay. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and were making a few stops in the New England area and this was our first. The Whaler's inn was very beautiful and consists of more than one building and we had a room in the Hoxie house overlooking the street and harbor. It was a beautiful view and was within walking distance to most everything. The staff at the Whaler's inn were very nice and informative. They had freshly baked cookies in the lobby when we arrived and the breakfast although it was standard it was filling and was included with the price of our stay. Mystic was a beautiful little town and if you get the chance to stop there I highly recommend the Whaler's inn and make sure to take a sail on the Argia. Loved Mystic and can't wait to visit again.

Room Tip: Try and request a room in the Hoxie house, beautiful view and perfect for romantic getaways.
