I decided to write this review to inform other families who are interested in staying at B&B's that this property is a great option. I usually travel with just my husband however, this trip we brought along our nephew. I was a little hesitant about staying at a B&B with a kid but I must say that it turned out to be a wonderful experience. We booked a room with double beds for a very good price and was able to get an additional discount with our AAA card. Our room was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The inn offered a continental breakfast which consisted of cereals, juice, coffee, tea, cakes, muffins, bagels, and waffles. It was more than enough for breakfast and you could bring it back to your room, which was great. Coffee, tea, or hot cocoa was available throughout the day as well as a computer with internet access. In addition, there were board games which we ended up using while we were there. The inn is located in downtown Mystic, a lovely location. We were able to walk to the little shops and restaurants. There was also a Tim Horton's which was opened 24/7. We truly enjoyed our trip and would definitely stay again. For families, this is also an option, you don't have to stay at the big chain hotels.

I have never been to Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods. I decided to stay at a B&B instead of going to a big hotel. This place is 20 minutes from either casino. Plus you have the charm of small town Mystic. No problem with check in. The people were courteous and helpful. They do not walk you to your room however. They point you in the right direction. We liked our room (#63) it was big, clean, had king size bed and TV. We had to request a DVD player. This room also has a gas fireplace. This is great for heating the room if you plan to have a minimal amount of clothing on. However its on a 60 minute timer that ticks like a time bomb. Not very romantic. Eventually you don't hear it anymore. The bathroom is large with a Jacuzzi tub. They give you 15 minutes on this timer. If you want to stay in longer you have to get out and reset the timer. Some advise, be careful when you take a shower the tub gets very slippery. We still liked the place for the price and would go back if in the area. One other tip. Have lunch at AZU!

We had a great room at the hotel. It was very clean, and the beds were very comfortable. We had coffee and tea in the room, an bonus at the end of a long touring day. The room was quiet even though it faced a busy road. The staff could have been more courteous and engaging, but they did answer all questions. They were helpful on locations to eat. They also had a very good continental breakfast in the morning. The room was very stuffy and warm, but the food was good. We would defintely stay here again.

The Inn is located in an historic building, right in the heart of Mystic. Sadly, there are a couple of things that are keeping this place from being a truly first-class visit.

The first time I stayed at the Whaler's Inn, about 5 years ago, the staff was fantastic. Fun, outgoing, fantastically polite and helpful. This year? Well...I'm not going to say they were rude. In fact, they were nice. But nice in an "I have to do this for my job" sort of way. Hey, it's not a big complaint, but if you really hate tourists that much, A) leave Mystic and B) don't work in the hospitality industry. We humans have an innate ability to detect insincerity. The weather was warm and inviting, but the staff looked as if they would rather be anywhere else.

Amenities-wise, the Whaler's is well-kept, the rooms are comfortable and clean, and the property itself is well maintained. They fall short on the details.

We had a king-sized bed, very comfy, with an uber-thick mattress. The problem? They didn't invest the extra 10 bucks for a sheet that would FIT that mattress. It barely fit around the TOP corners, so the minute you laid down, POOF!!! the corners would fly off. Half the night you find yourself lying face down on bare mattress.

A small detail, I know...so how about something slightly bigger? Our room was big and airy. The air conditioner was not. Even on high, the room stayed humid and just above comfortable on the warm side. This is in 75 degree weather, folks. I can't imagine how people stayed in that room over the summer.

And where they really fall short, at least in the latest room we had, is on the bathroom. You walk into a very nicely appointed, comfortable room, and end up in a bathroom straight out of Econo-Lodge. Plastic shower, bad tile...just, well....cheap. It wasn't horrid or nasty or unclean, it was just 2-star.

Whaler's Inn, if you're listening, I'd like you to know two things. 1) this is my last stay, despite being a huge fan the first time around and 2) go the extra mile, or you'll always be a step below good. Thank you for an average stay. I'll give you some credit: it was better than a Super 8.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay very much at the Whalers Inn!! The queen room was decorated nicely and comfortable. The check in process was easy and fast. What was the best about the inn was the location right near the Mystic river. You can easily walk to all the great restaurants, go see the drawbridge in action or walk the board walks. And of course the shops are all there too. You can walk to Mystic Seaport if you want also. The continental breakfast was the best continental breakfast we've had!! Bagels, yogurts, muffins, cereals of the traditional continental breakfast but also a hot entry each day served buffet style. Heading away from the drawbridge on E. Main street there is a Tim Horton's, St Patricks catholic church and a CVS. So handy to have these near by as well within walking distance. The inn had extras like wireless internet, restaurant menus and a public computer for use if you didn't bring your laptop.

From start to finish this is one of the best places I have stayed in awhile. I had booked the reservation a couple of months in advance and then noticed on the website that their prices had dropped. I called and asked if I could get the new pricing and they were more than happy to help. Check-in was friendly and quick and the parking was free. We were in a Deluxe Room in the Hoxie House which does not allow children and is really quiet. The room had been recently remodeled in great colors with a four poster bed and couch and desk area. The bathroom was enormous and had a jacuzzi tub. Top all this off with a great view of the drawbridge and river--we will definitely go back.
