I stayed at this this hotel for a weekend with my husband, as we were attending a friend's wedding. Since we took the train in, the Whaler's Inn was the perfect location - right in the charming town of Mystic. Convenient to walk to all the shops and restaurants. The decor is more country than modern, the bed was very hard, but the size of the room was decent. The shower was very small. Complimentary breakfast is served near the lobby. Although lacking in some amenities offered by larger chain hotels, the location can't be beat.

We had a most comfortable overnight stay here during a motoring holiday through Connecticut and other New England states in June this year. The room was spacious and beautifully furnished and the beds luxurious. The cold buffet breakfast was adequate though simple. The inn is well located close to the downtown area of Mystic and there is a choice of restaurants. The S&P Oyster Co. restaurant on the river bank and opposite the inn was particularly enjoyable. The inn is also within a comfortable walking distance to the famous Mystic Seaport Museum, well worth a visit.

Since my husband and I were traveling and looking forward to a special time we paid for the top suite. I was told when booking that we would have a corner room on the top floor with a view of the river from a large two person bath. This would have been worth the $$$$ if this is what we had received.

Here is what we had-
A second floor corner room that faced the river from the front windows and the side and bath windows faced the neighboring home so the blinds were closed since they could see in our room and we could watch their TV from our room! "romantic, right?"
Our room also had a water pipes that ran right behind our headboard so we heard every toilet flush and bath/shower that happened above us- ALL night long. This had to be the water for the entire top floor ( even though they said it wasn't) since no one room would be flushing that much and using that much water.
We were only booked for one night and we would have left if it were for more.
It is a great location but the premium rooms are not worth it. The river view is nice but not worth it unless you are on the 3rd floor- the 2nd floor is a disappointment. I would recommend the rooms that are in the back building of the property since they would be away from the street and bridge noise and less than half the price we paid.

The in room wifi was free but it's signal was so weak it didn't work. It was even really slow in the lobby. They did have a computer in the lobby for guest use. I didn't use it so I am not sure how fast it worked.

The breakfast was like you would get from a 2 or 3 star chain hotel, nothing special, Breads, cold cereal, cold hard boiled eggs, one plus was a local bakery provided the bagels, the coffee was really bad, it tasted like it had cigarettes in it, I know it didn't but that's how bad it tasted.

Upon reading your review, I was compelled to respond immediately. I wanted to touch on just a few of the statements you made that I strongly feel inaccurately depict the Inn.
Regarding the whirlpool tub, we do not state that the tub is for two people anywhere on the website or over the phone. We will give the dimensions of the tub as 3’ 6’ if asked. We feel it would be inappropriate to ask the size of our guests, therefore making the statement that it is a two person tub would be presumptuous.
We are located in historic downtown so having “neighbors” is implied. Our neighbors, residential, business or otherwise, are critical in providing a location in the hub of town.
Technical support is available 24 hours a day. I am unsure if you contacted our front desk with your WIFI problems, but we have a technical support team that would have been happy to assist you in any computer issues you may have had. Oftentimes it is just a computer setting that needs to be adjusted.
Our continental breakfast is complimentary and may serve over 100 guests per day. Unfortunately we are unable to meet the different dietary needs of each individual. We do use a very popular brand of coffee and believe that coffee is a matter of preference. There are many different flavors of coffee such as Deep Roast, French Roast, Breakfast Blend and I can assure you that ours is not “tobacco” flavored at all.
Although I do apologize that you found your accommodations unacceptable please know that over the past 10 years, Hoxie House has been host to many delighted guests such as Former President Jimmy Carter, Celebrity Chef Paula Dean and NFL Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton.

This is the second time my husband and I stayed at the Whalers Inn and we love it. The inn is on Main St and within walking distance to everything ( restaurants, stores, boat rides, etc. ) the rooms are what you would expect for an inn, flowery bedspreads, "new England" furniture, small tv. The two rooms we have stayed in have had a standup shower only, no bath. Both rooms have been very, very clean. A continental breakfast was available in the morning ( excellent muffins and bagels). If you are looking for a place that is close to it all and want to avoid the crowded ( and overpriced) chain hotels then I would definitely stay here.

The Whaler's Inn was right on the Main Street so very convenient for shopping and dining and close to the water, too. Our room was large, clean and very comfortable. The washroom was bright and modern. I would definitely stay here again. It has a 4-star restaurant which we did not eat at, but the menu looked good.

I am a stickler for nice hotel rooms especially for a winter getaway. We stayed in the Hoxie house so you get a giant tub and an awesome fire place and the room overlooks the bridge. It is lovely. Perfectly located within walking distance of everything downtown including mystic pizza and of course ice cream and snacks. Definitely romantic and very nice.

Room Tip: Stay in the Hoxie House

We are so glad that you have had the chance to visit Mystic in the Winter. Our Hoxie House rooms are especially pleasant that time of year with the gas fireplace and whirlpool tub. Be sure to keep an eye on our website for our Winter Monthly Specials this year!

We stayed in Room 61, Hoxie House overlooking the famous bridge & river.
The room was lovely and I can honestly say that is was one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in.
The bathroom was spacious with a huge whirl pool tub.
We didn't really use the hotel amenities but did make use of the free continental breakfast just off the lobby. Great selection of teas and bagels there and enough to get you on your way.
The staff at reception were always helpful and friendly.
I would definitely stay here again
