“Don't Bother”
Reviewed August 24, 2014

My wife and I dined here one night while vacationing in Mystic. Unfortunately, the experience was sub par. It was a week night and not very busy. The lobster mac and cheese was very good and a large portion, while the "lump meat" crab cakes had little crab, were small, and somewhat greasy. The large bowl of clam chowder was decent and contained a good amount of clams. While the food was "ok", we feel the experience was overpriced, considering overall quality and service. We were offered no bread, no water, and one of the wait staff actually told my wife she would need to keep her dinner fork to use for for dessert. Really? We had to actually hunt down our waiter for some water. Sad. Once we discovered better food and service across the street, and found the prices to be basically the same, we regretted this choice even more. We would not recommend dining here.

“A mystic gem: Modern but atmospheric, warm, nice.”
Reviewed August 22, 2014

Great bar, live music some nights. Very pretty and right in the middle of the village and all the action. Great seafood, or anything else. Big menu. You won't leave hungry or disappointed.

“all around great value”
Reviewed August 21, 2014

food is reasonably enough priced for a tourist town, the décor and atmosphere is nice and there is music most weekends.

In a town where the trend is to gouge prices and not offer correspondingly better food, the Ancient Mariner is a standout

“Average”

Staff was friendly and took good care of us. However the food was just extremely average. Lobster very chewy, clams boring. Nothing exciting and unfortunately simple dishes were just forgettable.

“Average for the east coast. Slow kitchen, wait staff not super friendly.”

Stopped here for lunch. Service was slow. Sodas were incredibly overpriced. $2.50 for sodas, no refills. The wait staff was not overly friendly.
