Owner description: This recreated 18th-century New England village offers a refreshing change from shopping malls as we know them. Browse or buy in the more than 60 small shops or dine in one of this charming setting's many eateries.

At first glance, Olde Mistick Village looks like so many other tourist shopping villages, where all the stores sell the same souvenirs. But don't make that mistake and pass it by. Sure, there's an ample supply of fudge and popcorn and tee shirts, but there are also a lot of great specialty shops that you won't necessarily find in a mall or outlet shopping village. The Toy Soldier is a fantastic toy store, stocked with everything from princess gear for little girls to authentic tin soldiers for grown-up boys. Imagine is a 60s time warp, and there's even a store specializing in Scandinavian delicacies. The Franklin General Store has a great colllection of local books and New England-made pottery, and the Army/Navy surplus store is always busy. But our favorite thing to do is grab a few bags of food from the Scandinavian shop and feed the ducks in the pond behind the little church. We saw new hatchlings a couple of weeks ago, and they're growing fast. Bestemor, the Scandinavian shop, sells duck food for 75 cents a bag, and all the proceeds go to a local food pantry. The ducks appreciate it, and so do the folks who use the food pantry.

It was literally "raining cats and dogs" when we visited Mystic so we didn't get a chance to really leisurely stroll around the village and shop, but one must-see on our list was the store Raining Cats And Dogs for our 9 year old dog lover. It was her dream store! It is huge and they have everything you could imagine for both dogs and dog lovers (much smaller selection of cat items which was just fine for us since we were only interested in the dog items). My daughter picked out a toy and a treat for our dog as well as an umbrella and a chapstick for herself and my husband was so pleased to find a dog collar of his favorite sports team (Miami Dolphins) which is not something we're used to seeing around here. What a great find this store was! I wish they had a website for online ordering or even their own tripadvisor page. You will not be disappointed in this store if you are a dog lover. We would go back to Olde Mystic Village again if for nothing else than to visit this store!

Many unique shops to wander in and out of. Enjoyed the "Angel" shop the most which was most intriguing. Lunch at the Bleu Squid was fantastic; great twist on the grill cheese sandwich. Make sure you bring your coupons for deals.

Cute shopping village! Lots of shops, bakery, 2 restaurants( skip ten clams, a duck pond, and more! Fun way to spend a few hours! Very clean and kids enjoy it! They have a grilled cheese shop!

The village is a cute area to walk around and buy little gifts. Some of the shops are more touristy then others, but you can find cute, quaint boutiques among them. I wen t during the internation food festival, which was fun and offered a variety of different foods. It is worth checking out if you have a little extra time in Mystic. Also, it is right next door to the aquarium, so you may want to hit both of those at the same time, considering they are a few minutes drive away from downtown and the seaport.
