This wonderful treasure has been on my bucket list for many years. (Since I saw numerous photos of the seaport in a travel magazine). The layout is very conducive to strolling at a leisurely pace and there are plenty of convenient places to rest and reflect on the buildings, ships and gardens.
We particularly enjoyed the whaling ship restoration and the nautical instrument shop. The lighthouse was wonderful and the Figureheads Museum was fascinating.
Make sure you have at least 4 or 5 hours to visit and an entire day would be ideal.

We loved Mystic Seaport - love the old time feel and seeing life as it was. Seeing the restoration of an old sea vessel, was extremly impressive! Love the different events that have during the summer months. We loved it so much, we purchased a year pass! Can't wait to go back and do even more exploring.

Lots to see for first time visitors, but it is rather expensive. Not good for small children. Children are better off visiting this place when they are older...8 or above would be best I think.

Walking through the gates is a true step back in time...wooden boats, manila lines and the smells and sounds of a working waterfront, a great experience for any person especially a boating enthusist. We were there and the show piece a whaler from the mid-19th century the Charles W Morgan was being rehabbed, a fasinating process to watch. I took a boat building class while there. If you have the chance the catboat trip around the harbor area or the steam powered launch are must do events. Just a great experience!

Parents, DON'T hesitate to bring the kids. There are classes for them, sailboat rides and plenty to keep them busy in a good way. The aquarium although smaller then some is in excellent condition and the kids will be wowed by some of the tanks.

This was not our first trip. Buy the family Seaport membership and get on the event mailing list, it's less expensive than a day trip too. We've been Seaport members for a number of years and we keep going back for more!

This is one of my favorite "go to" places within a reasonable driving distance from my home (NYC). It's a beautiful place to spend a comfortable and relaxing day or two.
