Maybe we are geeks but we really liked Mystic Seaport and most of the attraction is not even open in the winter...we were treated excellent by the staff...many staff members went out of their way to talk to us on a individual basis and answer our questions...we really had a great time.

We spent a very snowy cold day at the seaport. Kids loved their new years activities, including stories, magic shows, workshops and more. And the seaport is enchanting in the snow! Probably because of the weather the park was rather empty, and all staff members were visibly happy to host us and were extremely helpful.
Ticket prices are a little expansive, but we were allowed to use the same ticket for two days, making it much more reasonable.

Learn about local history of Mystic, whaling, fishing, shipping industry. Authentic local buildings and stuff to see. Great people that work there and teach you about it.

I attended the lamplight theatrical walkthrough of olde Mystick village two days before Christmas. You're taken by horse-drawn carriage through part of the town, then you visit several different 19th century buildings escorted by character guides (all by lamplight). The buildings are realistic representations of what the village may have looked like, and the guides are all very friendly. The actual story they tell (about a love triangle and bank robbery) was somewhat convoluted and comes to a somewhat unsatisfactory solution. If they maybe simplified the story and focused more on showing off the buildings, I think it would be a better tour.

Still, it's a different kind of tour and worth doing if you haven't done it before.

Wow how it has grown spent the entire day walking the port and learning about the reconditioned ships and whaling boats need to take time and plenty of pictures as it is a lot to see and comprehend.
