Corfu Santa Barbara
Reviewed June 30, 2013

It's high time to tell the truth about this place. We went there in September 2012. I read some negative things in booking, but I've decided to inore them. And that was my terrble mistake... When, we arrived, noone was expecting us. So, while waiting we took the chance to look around the place and enter the rooms, especially the so called apartments:( The apartments were opened wide and there wee cats going in and out. You can not imagine the smell there. And the view - the view as towards a small yard with old half burned building. There are only four rooms looking at the unforgettable beach!
I could not stay a moment longer in such a filthy place, so I wanted to talk to the owner. We have waitet for a few hours fo someone to decide to talk to me and my husband. In the meantime we have found a few much better places around and we arrange to stay in another small, but clean and pleasant place.
We had huge arguements with the owner or Manager of Santa Barbara, so we had to pay some penalty for not staying there. The Manager said that they have to pay big taxes to booking.com, so we decided to pay and to enjoy our holiday.
The secret of the restaurant there is that they give free uzo with the morning coffee, then with lunch and for dinner of course. The food is not the delicious Greek food that you can eat in the neighbouring rstaurants, but the owners keep their guests happy by their home made uzo.

I was introduced to the Santa Barbara Maria apartments in Corfu by my then boyfriend Bruce. He had been vacationing there for several years before he met me and was desperate to share the delights of this typically Greek Taverna. Now 7 years later my then boyfriend is now my husband and we are still visiting even spending our honeymoon with our friends and the delightful Maria,Themis and family in 2007. This page is not big enough for me to tell all of the delights of this place but I will share just a few snippets. On arriving you are greeted by the pretty apartments covered with Bougainvillea and pots of bedding plants lovingly put together by Maria's Mum and dad. Each patio is festooned with colour at any time of year and the sea is just a stones throw away. Each room is equipped with a mini kitchen and a patio or balcony and is comfortably furnished, there is an extra charge for air conditioning should you require it. There is one bar run by Maria's brother Laki and a restaurant run by Costa (young) who between them make a brilliant double act. Maria runs a gift shop on site which also sells essentials, a small grocery shop is 50yds away as is an adjoining restaurant called 'The Barbados' run by a character called Costa (old) who puts on a brilliant 'Greek Night' once a week. We always stay on a room only basis but breakfast can be included. The breakfasts are adequate with a variety of cold and cooked options and local choices. The restaurant and bar is open all day and there is nothing better for lunch than a Gyros or Souvlaki washed down with Laki's Pina Colada. The Taverna faces the sea and is on an uncrowded beach where you pay for sun beds and umbrella's if you wish. There is no swimming pool. In the evening it is particularly delightful to watch the sun go down over the sea. I cannot wax lyrical enough about The Santa Barbara and It's under-commercialised charm reminiscent of another age when an Ouzo was bought with a Drachma...

Room Tip: Ask for a front sea facing room. They do get hot in the height of summer but for 5 euro's extra...

I had the pleasure of staying at this friendly family run taverna in Perivoli earlier this month. All the recently renovated rooms are en suite with balconies (some overlooking the sea) and kitchenettes.
Board can be room only, bed and breakfast, half board or full board.
The spacious bar and dining area overlooks the Santa Barbara's own beach and the excellent home cooking caters for all tastes, from traditional Greek cuisine to burgers and chips, even a full English is available (the beef stiffado is superb).
The public areas have free wifi provided.

If you want traditional Greek food, hospitality and a beautiful beach, this is the place to come. Right on the beach, the rooms are very clean, recently refurbished and the attached restaurant is 1st class. The village of Perivoli is about a mile and half away and is a great place to meet the locals and enjoy a coffee or a beer.

It was a unique experience! Me, my wife and the kids had a really great time there. We stayed there for two weeks. Some friends of ours recommended the place.
It is located litterally ON THE BEACH. The beach was like 20 steps away!

Maria-the owner is really kind, healpful and pleasant. We had a room that was on the side of the building and from our balcony we could see the beach and the Ionian Sea in a really small distance.. The place is in general quiet and peaceful, exactly what we needed at the time. The kids loved it.

We booked a family apartment. There were two different bedrooms, a seperate room where was the kitchen with kichenette and a small refregerator and of course a bathroom and our balcony. The room was spacious and when you closed the windows you litterally couldn't hear a sound.

In the same building there is the restaurant. Traditional greek specialties- wow, the food was great and the prices reasonable. We went there for a refreshment at noon and for dinner. We could have our lunch and watch the kids play on the beach from a really short distance. Every other Wednesday night a "Greek night" took place at the restaurant with traditional dances and songs.

The rates of the rooms are really low considering how close it is to the beach. We had fresh towells and cleaning every day. The room was really clean.

Before we left we bought souvenirs from Maria's souvenir shop to remind us of our holiday there.

Before we left we booked an apartment for 2013 because it is difficult to find a room if you try to book after Christmas. We are so excited to go back this July!
