Howard Johnson Hotel - Milford/New Haven
Ranked #11 of 13 Hotels in Milford
Reviewed July 8, 2008

The lobby is okay but the rest of the place is horrid, old and not maintained. Leaves had collected at the entrance by the pool. The main elevator smelled like sweat. There were hand prints on the door that remained for a few days, and there appeared to be some sort of leakage in the ceiling of the elevator. Once you reach the hallway, the carpet smells old. The wallpaper is ripped in small places. I even saw miscellaneous trash like a bottle cap and a Howard Johnson toiletry bottle. Even the stairwell smells disgusting.

The room was okay upon entry. It certainly didn't smell as terrible as the hallway. However, I was not impressed with seeing old hairs from past guests in the bathroom, a stained bathtub and broken towel rack. The room was over run with large black ants near the window all over the green carpet. The bed was kind of hard with limp pillows.

This place is a rip for the rate and the most disgusting Howard Johnson I've ever stayed in. As another reviewer stated, there are seedy characters there too.

We stayed one night on our way back home. It's a seedy hotel with suspicious people lurking around. They have smoke-free floors which are not smoke free. On our floor there was a shirtless man smoking a cigarette and staring at us very suspiciously. The hallways smell horrible. The air is stagnant, the rugs are old and worn, and very unbecoming. The floor in our room looked like it had been vacuumed. There were spider eggsacks at the top of the curtains and the bed was very uncomfortable. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and am very surprised that others have given it high ratings. I've stayed in many hotels in my lifetime and this is by far one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in.

This is a horrible hotel from start to finish. We only stayed one night ( thank goodness). We also had a room on the 3rd floor. We had to go from the lobby, up some stairs, thru a door into a smokey hallway, out another door to an old smelly elevator. The room we had was very bad. The ceiling was bascially falling down, the bathroom had stains in tub and sink. The floor was some sort of indoor/outdoor carpeting. Walls were so thin that we could hear the goings on in the room next door. The price seemed out of range for the ammenities provided.

This is our favorite hotel in Milford. Larry makes you feel welcome. Miniature golf, indoor pool, Friendly's Restaurant are all on the premises. Free continental breakfast a plus. We will be back.
