My husband and I tried out the tapas and sangria at Bistro Basque on a very cold Sunday evening in February. Surprisingly, it was filled at 7 p.m., even though we were advised we wouldn't need a reservation.

The tapas menu was shorter than I am used to a most spanish restaurants-- the empahsis seemed to be more on entrees than tapas. Still we managed to easily make a meal of four tapas between us, though I regretted not trying the rosemary lamb chops that were served to the table next to us--they looked divine.

The menu was a 50-50 balance of meat and seafood. The flavors of everything we had was exceptionally well balanced: in particular we liked the ceviche, which was light as air.

Service was exceptionally attentive and the place was very cozy... a previous review we read said it was noisy: it seems they have attended to that issue with soft accoustic tiles that are not only nice to look at but have made the room quieter.

For individuals, there's a bar to cozy up to in the front, and I noticed a party of about ten at the back celebrating a birthday.

For two, including drinks and a shared dessert, our meal was well under $100 so I'd say this was definitely reasonable. They didn't rush us at all, which I liked and they brought us a complementary after dinner drink, which was extremely hospitable.

The only thing I might change is adding a few more tapas to the menu, for more variety and choice for those wanting to have the full tapas experience.

Thumbs up.

Great Tapas menu and a rich European environment make this one of my favorites. The service is a bit slow, but the personal attention tends to bring balance.

Went to the Basque Bistro on a Tuesday evening with a friend. This is a new restaurant in the heart of downtowm Milford, near the traing station, across fromMilford Phots and down 2 from Cafe Atlantique.

It was about third full with people at tables in the back and at the bar in front... not too bad for a new place on a Tues nite. We sat at the bar and started with a beer from their great beer selection including 6 or 7 from Latin America. With our plan to order tapas, we looked at the intertesting but lengthy menu and asked the bartender for suggestions. We tried the herbed Gorgonzola on toast with roasted tomato, a delicious sausage item with apple compote, grilled shrimp in a spicy sweet sauce, and one other (?). Each was fantastic and reasonably priced - $8-10.

After we asked about the Sangria we saw him preparing, he made us a small glass and it was great -- not too sweet, and made with 2 kinds of wine, triple sec, rum, and fruit.

All in all a great experience and a nice addition to the Milford restaurant scene... we plan to return on a weekend night for dinner. The host did warn us that it gets a little crowded Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
