My husband and I are usually more than satisfied when we stay at Hyatt hotels, so we were eager to try the new Hyatt Place hotels. We'd read that every room was luxuriously fitted with a 42" plasma TV, etc... We chose the Hyatt Place at Milford because it was the only open Hyatt Place within driving distance.
First of all (and this isn't the Hyatt's fault) there is NOTHING to do nearby. No decent restaurants, no attractions, nothing. That wasn't too bad, because we had come for a quiet weekend, and we'd brought our notebook (which we easily hooked up to the TV) and watched lots of downloaded movies.
Since we spent most of our trip in our room... it was an integral part of our evaluation. Upon first glance, the room is lovely, with the big TV, sleeper sofa, etc. Everything is nice... until you see the bathroom. (I will be updloading pictures so you guys can see for yourselves) The bathroom is slightly larger than a closet. It barely hold the shower and the toilet. The sink is OUTSIDE of the bathroom, right in front of the bed. If you get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and want to wash your hands, you will wake the other person (people). Also, the corners of the shower were dirty and old - NOT what you expect from a hotel that's only 2 days old.
The worst part: DO NOT LET THEM PUT YOU ON THE FIRST FLOOR. We were put in a room that was at the very end of the hall (away from the lobby) which we thought was perfect. (There's an exit to the parking lot right next to it so it was very easy to bring our stuff inside). However, they did not soundproof this hotel at all. From our room, WITH THE TV on, we could hear every conversation, every phone call that took place in the lobby. The lounges are in the lobby, which made it impossible to sleep. There was a wedding party in the lobby, and they stayed up past midnight. I can actually tell you the details of every conversation that took place.
The only bright spot was the staff. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. They were also all extremely apologetic because no one knew how to use any of the new computer systems.
My advice... stay in New Haven. There's a lot more to do there. Also, don't visit new hotels. Wait until they know what they're doing.
