“What a great discovery”
Reviewed March 7, 2013

Read about Krust in the Middletown Press, couldn't imagine where it was, North End??? Been there since January??? What the heck! Thanks to the review I was able, just barely to find it and even better to find a parking spot right outside. Very hard to see glass eched name "Krust" above the door, outside of building was pretty dark. What a wonderful sensorial experience upon opening the door. The smell of fresh wood, mellow lighting, beautiful work worked walls! I was lucky to find a seat at a very busy bar. All tables were taken. Behind the bar is small, bartenders squeezing by each other. I was eventually given a menu, which due to the spare lighting was nearly impossible to see. I had to hold my phone up next to it to see the choices. Shroom Pizza was fanstastic! The bevy of creative drinks being made was very entertaining. It took quite a while to get a check and pay. A lot of people waiting to be seated. Bottom line - atmosphere has a very cool cosmopolitan feel, its fresh and new. I think a few details need to be ironed out but all in all very nice! Will go again and have been telling all my friends about it to their pleasure! Good Luck guys!! p.s. just get a little more light!

“Wow pizza actually rivals pizza from Italy!”
Reviewed February 24, 2013 via mobile

This new restaurant has a LOT of potential. It's only been open a month so service is confusing and hard to find. It's small inside so a wait for a table is at least 45min. Best option is to find a spot at the bar where you can watch the pizzas being made. Food menu is limited but focuses on what they do best! Drink menu is super cool. I had a chili cucumber and then hot basil martinis (I love spiciness) and I loved them. Ill upload a pic of the hot basil martini. I believe this place is related to the Eli cannon and Nora cupcake places right nearby (those cupcakes are the only desserts on the menu) but I guarantee you'll love the pizza and cool vibe inside! I'm so excited this place opened in my town!!

“Not worth the wait”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

For a restaurants name to be Krust, you would think the pizza crust would be outstanding. Dont get me wrong, I never had a pizza I didn't like but this crust was kind of like a fast food crust. The pizza varieties were interesting and very tasty but we couldnt find a mushroom on the mushroom one. The wait was over an hour and we had to go across the street to Eli's to wait...no room at Krust. We got to taste Pappy's bourbon...very difficult to find, which was extraordinary. The drinks were very reasonable and the pizza satisfying as were were starving by the time we got seated. The wait staff was quick and attentive. I don't see this restaurant lasting.

“RUN--Don't Walk!!! Krust is FANTASTIC”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

Just opened up in Middletown's North End, Krust is already one of my very favorite restaurants. The wood-fired pizza is simply outstanding--so much better than anything else available, even in this heavily Italian city. The crust is neither thick nor thin--it's an amazing, chewy, flavorful crust that falls somewhere in between. The tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, fresh mozzarella are all fabulous, high quality ingredients and the results are pizzas that taste truly incredible--they know how to make pizza. One of the co-owners turns out to be a brussel sprouts freak, so of course there is a sublimely delicious "sprouts" pizza on the menu. The other co-owner is a bourbon freak and the bar is chocked full with a staggering array of bourbons, and the whiskey makes its way into many of the mixed drinks as well. And he is more than happy to share his extensive bourbon knowledge with his patrons. The restaurant itself has been created in the space that was formerly a great Tibetan restaurant, so maybe it has inherited some good karma. The ambiance is calm, relaxed and visually appealing--lots of natural, unvarnished wood and black with red highlights. Music is played overhead but there wasn't one single television set to be seen anywhere. They say they are going for a relaxed "speakeasy" atmosphere and they have achieved it. The owners are congenial and welcoming, the staff is highly competent and knowledgeable. Krust is a terrific restaurant! It is a guaranteed great meal.

“Not just another pizza joint”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

I have been hearing about Krust through the grapevine for some time now, and was anticipating its opening. I didn’t get there for opening night but did finally get there for night #10. It has a very unassuming façade and you have to be looking for it as there aren’t any big signs. The interior is simple – it’s all wood in both light and dark tones with minimal lighting. The room is separated by a slat divider that has the bar on one side and 9 of the ten tables on the other It’s all very casual and reminiscent of a warehouse of sorts – at least to me. At the end of the bar is the wood oven that simply must be seen. It’s there where the magic happens.

The bar prides itself on its selection of bourbon. There is a lot to choose from at all price levels. For each bourbon there is a listing of proof and the price for a taste or for a pour. There is also a decent wine list and about 10 craft brews on tap.

The food menu has two salads and a variety of well thought out wood fired pizza concoctions that stray a bit from the norm. We ordered a pie with garlic and egg. Let me tell you if you’ve never had a lightly cooked egg on your pizza, you’re missing out. The taste is outstanding.

The wait staff is young, friendly, and efficient. Both owners stopped by to say hello and ask how the food was and if we had any suggestions. You just don’t get that enough anymore.
