In the 1970's I and my family stayed at the cottage next door on 3 holidays, and the owner of that property has now converted what was the adjacent barn into a separate property let. As such, I didn't need much convincing to come and stay, but even if I wasn't predisposed to like this place actually staying here has redoubled that feeling of delight. The property is reached via the traditional high sided single track lanes and is opposite the Cobbaton Combat Collection Museum, which in the said 1970's was a farm with a farmer how collected military vehicles but since 1981 has been converted into a fully fledged museum. This was another attraction of the property having visited the said museum in 1984, 1989, 1994, 1998 and 2012, which is when I spotted the bar was now a holiday let. The property is advertised as dog-friendly but we did not note any usual dog smells upon our arrival and the carpets/soft furnishings all appear undamaged or affected by the usual renters animal friends. We used the cottage as a base to revisit sites around the cottage, as it is within a few miles of the market towns of South Molton/Barnstable. Set on 2 floors one of the advantages we found was our 2 teenage sons could in the twin room on the ground floor have their own space as on that floor there is a separate toilet/shower room. The ground floor also contains a farmhouse style fully equipt kitchen/diner, as well as Dishwasher/washing machine. Upstairs you have the double bedroom which has a barn style door opening for you to view the lane in front of the cottage, bath/toilet and large living room which has at one end an opening to a balcony overlooking the owners garden and drive. There is an adjacent field which is a bit boggy/bumpy to use for anything other than walking your dog. The supplied bedding/towels were high quality and little extras like washing up liquid etc was a real bonus. You need to drive everywhere though which wasn't an issue for us but for those who want to get away from the car then this may not be the place for you. Strong free wi-fi included and needed as no signal otherwise. See the pictures to illustrate. Will be booking to go again.
