I have been dining at Cavey's for over thirty years and have never had a bad dining experience. I am a huge fan of the upstairs Italian restaurant (in my mind a better value than the more expensive downstairs French restaurant) and am amazed how consistently good the food and service has been. Best tables are either in the front room of the main dining area or the mezzanine in the bar area. Only freshest high quality ingredients are used and perfectly prepared. My favorite dishes are Grandmother's ravioli as a pasta fresca course and organic chicken with homemade sausage, garlic potatoes, fontina cheese and spinach. My wife and I love to cook and always try to order a dish we cannot make as good or better at home. We have never made ravioli, chicken or sausage this good.

We have eaten in both the Italian and this time the downstairs fancier French restaurant, The service, food and wine cannot be beat.

The only fault with Cavey's (Upstairs restaurant - Northern italian cuisine) is that they have a limited menu. While everything on it is excellent and well prepared, sometimes there isn't an item which you are 'yearning for'.

However, every item is not only superbly prepared and presented, it shows real talent in the kitchen for the blend of flavors and spices. For example, the Chicken Breast with Sausage and Tomatoes is so good, the name doesn't do it justice. The flavors blend and the result is a sensation on the palette which cannot be described.

Their short ribs of beef (when available) are so rich, you're glad they don't serve a larger portion. They must be roasted for hours and hours to get the flavor. There was no fat anywhere, and the gravy (served en casserole) could have been a meal in itself.

We've visited there a dozen times, sometimes for business, and have never been disappointed.

Although not usually crowded when we go, the service can be a little on the slow side - not offensive, but it can drag the visit out. I know most food is freshly prepared, so we tend to give them a "pass" on that issue.

Cavey's is unique in that it includes a French restaurant which is excellent and an excellent Italian restaurant. Our most recent trip was to Italy and as expected, the pastas, fish and steaks were great. They have a wonderful wine list and gracious, knowledgeable service staff. Definitely the best restaurant in the area.

Cavey's has been in Manchester for many years and always had a good reputation. We recently had a late dinner in the bar area and the food was terrible.
