This is a very old hotel that has been completely rebuilt and enlarged. The staff is professional and perhaps overly concerned about security. The rooms are very well appointed and housekeeping is on the ball. All rooms truly do have a view of the sound. Ours was the last room on the East wing with wonderful views of the winter sunrises and shoreline. Prices for rooms are New York City range. The only complaint we have is that there is a heater in the bathroom I assume to keep pipes from freezing. It can not be turned off. Keep the bathroom door closed minimizes the sound. The frig is enclosed and raises the interior temperature . The bar food prices have been reduced a bit and the food and wines are good. Valet parking is provided. Beds very comfortable. All rooms have spacious sitting porches.

Room Tip: A view including the shoreline is more interesting than just a frontal view of the open water. A fro...

We had room 408. The staff was very good to us always asking if we needed anything and going way out of their way to help us with anything we wanted. They were all not just well trained staff but nice people. Our room was everything I had hoped for and I really wanted to stay there forever. I hope to come back and bring the whole family for a long weekend when it's summer but I will certainly stop there when passing by as I do several times a year. The restaurant and bar is pretty good there too.Frankly, I had a great time in the freezing cold on the beach.Get a room with the cute electric fireplace and stay cozy. All the rooms have a great view just decide if you want morning sun or afternoon.408 was filled with winter sunshine all the way till check out time.

Several friends catching up on a Saturday night. It was pretty dead so we decided on dining room rather than their 'small' bar. (Why isn't the bar facing the water?) Our waitress was very nice but knew virtually nothing about the menu. My clams were way over cooked and took about an hour to come out. Not sure I understand how a place with 25 people in it couldn't get clams and tuna tar tar out quickly? I felt bad for waitress because she didn't really know what the heck was going on. We sat for several hours and then had a terrific run in with some drunkards from the party upstairs in the parking lot. The place is really beautiful, they poured a ton of money into it. Just not sure what they want to be. Food - not very good. Service not very good. Will try again in summer.

You can't go wrong at this beautiful boutique hotel. While the rooms are gorgeous and leave nothing to be desired, and the restaurant is top notch, it's the service that will truly astound you. From the valets to the staff at the registration desk or cleaning the rooms, everyone smiles and welcomes you, going out of their way to help out. I arranged a large group dinner, and a few room reservations for my family, and from the moment we arrived, we were on top of the world. From beach walks right outside to lounging in the large rooms with gorgeous views off private decks to a fantastic breakfast (and an amazing looking brunch on Sunday!) and an absolutely incredible dinner, this place has it all -- and for very reasonable rates. I am sure the spa would be lovely and would love to some day return and indulge! This is the type of place you don't want or need to leave -- you will want for nothing! Thanks to all the amazing staff (especially to Trish and Dane & his colleagues, as well as Brook, Kathy & Julie -- and we can't forget Chef Enrique -- at the Wharf)!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 4th floor are furthest from any noise in the function rooms on the 2nd floor and have t...

I was so impressed with the staff at this hotel, everyone was friendly and accommodating, and made our stay wonderful. The room was amazing, the bed so comfortable, nice fireplace, wonderful soaking tub, and most importantly the view of the Long Island Sound. The Wharf restaurant food was spectacular you don't even need to leave the hotel. I took my fiance for his birthday and he loved his present!!! Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: All rooms have a view you can't go wrong.

This was our second stay at the Madison Beach Hotel, both times during the winter. We live in Connecticut, and don't often use Connecticut hotels, but we wanted to see one of our favorite bands (Shiny Lapel) play at the hotel and decided to reserve a room. The old Madison Beach Hotel was scruffy and run-down; the new version is delightful. The layout of the hotel rooms and restaurant offer wonderful views of the beach and ocean. The rooms are large and full of light. The restaurant is very good, and the staff helpful and enthusiastic. The New Year's Eve package was very reasonably priced, and we had a wonderful time. I don't know if the hotel has a spa or swimming pool, so I didn't rate those.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a lovely tub area that has shuttered windows looking out into the main room and thro...

We had a family gathering here on the Sunday between Christmas and New Year's. They easily and gracefully accommodated 27 of us for dinner, including many children. The service was superb, fast, efficient, friendly. The food was soo good that we called the chef out for applause. Those who stayed at the hotel had beautiful rooms. And the views! But it was the small touches that reallyt impressed us, like opening a common room for games for the kids, surprising my wife and me with a plate of free cherrystones and shrimp at the bar, making sure early departures had their coffee, and so forth. It is indeed a lovely place... and, for luxury and grace, not expensive at all.
