“Any glowing review is fake”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2012

The photo posted here is not the motel in question. Priceline has this as a 2 star hotel. It is a 1.5 star roadside motel. The half star is there only because the facility is inhabitable - for a night at most. I knew I 'd been deceived by Capt. Kirk as soon as I saw the building.
The review claiming to be that of a student is definately fake.

You are on top of the highway. The hotel is under renovations and the staff does not care.

So recently, I stayed at this Days Inn for an extended period of time, a whole semester. Considering that it comes out to roughly the same as room/board at universities, I can say that I had a great time there. It comes with working amenities, comfortable beds and is very convenient, especially to QU. The housekeeping never stole anything, and Paul, who is the innkeeper, was a stand-up guy. It would have been nice if the housekeeping spoke better English, tho. I wish the fitness center had been functioning, and there could be more modern TVs and microwaves, perhaps better insulation in the bathrooms with windows, but I had NO problems with insects or rodents, which I feared. I also wish all rooms had electrical outlets next to the beds, not just the double bed rooms, because of cell phone issues. But its nice, quiet, peaceful, and comfortable. Whether you plan to stay for a short period, or for an extended period, as I did, this is a great place!

Room Tip: look for the two-bed rooms because you can plug your cell phone in next to your bed at night.

The Days Inn Hamden is a classic 1950s motel: two story strip with a front parking lot and simple office in the middle. That said the structure has been well maintained and has exactly what we look for: a good shower/bath, clean, comfortable beds and furniture, fridge, coffee maker and microwave. Yes, there are bare patches in the rug, but that was the only negative and was easily balanced by the positives including the pleasant attitude of the staff.
In short, it isn't the Ritz and the price isn't either!

The Hotel was OK, nothing great, they had an issue with the room which I was given, they changed me to another which didn't have an air-conditioner. I am not going back for sure with those prices

The staff was brusque here, which normally wouldn't bother me. But they happened to be resurfacing the parking lot right outside the room they assigned me and were completely unapologetic about the noise, odors, and the fact that I had to park my car at the opposite end of the building -- all of which affected my stay.

The biggest factor that would prevent me from recommending this hotel to anyone is the magnificently uncomfortable bedding. The room looked like its decor had been recently updated, but the mattress was clearly ancient and very uncomfortable. The pillows were either hard, pancaked slabs of polyfill or lumpy, clumpy blobs -- neither option very comfortable. The linens were completely threadbare and it made me quite uncomfortable. I would much rather have a room with dated decor but more serviceable bedding than this sort of superficially updated place.

I did not find any cockroaches, thank heavens, but there were ants crawling on the walls of my room. I did put a drink in the fridge, but was afraid to have any other food in the room due to the ant problem.

I was not happy with the cleanliness, the quality of accommodations (mattress, etc), or the service. The convenience of the location was outweighed by the inconvenience of the parking lot resurfacing project, the insect problem, and the difficulty of getting a good night's sleep in a lousy bed.

Room I had was fine and clean - shower stall was new, everything was fine, coffeepot and microwave in room. Whitney Avenue is busy, and all the rooms face it so you will hear some cars at night - but I had no trouble sleeping there. The continental breakfast is fine and adequate. If I had to be near Hamden I would certainly stay here again. I'd call it something more than "basic" although not luxury. Price is very reasonable.
