We have come here before with friends, usually for just a glass for wine or three. This time we had eaten at a fun little place ( outside grill) and came here for some after dinner wine and cheese plate for dessert.

We really do like the vibe, the attentive staff, the wine selection and tonight we added the cheese plate to our favorite! There are actually two options. We chose the one with figs and cranberry covered cream cheese and more. We asked if we could have a side of the lemon curd, on the other plate offering - and yes! They could do. It the little things that bring you back or pack up and go away. We will be back!

Restful, relaxing, attractive, quiet. Ballou's Restaurant is all these things and sometimes when you're frazzled with travelling that's all you need. Ballou's looks lovely; all natural woodgrain and subdued natural light. It's an inviting place that makes you want to linger.

My cousin and I had salads, the #2 field greens with apples and turkey ($12.50) and the #6 smoked salmon salad ($12). Both were pleasant but unremarkable -- pretty much what you'd find in any fern bar. The staff was nice; the coffee was good. 'Nuff said.

We were fortunate enough to learn of Ballou's from folks on the street who had just had a delicious meal there, they also alerted us that the restaurant is dog friendly. We were in Guilford for the art show, our pet with us, so this was for sure a place to try. We had wonderful patio seating, a doggy water bowl, delicious food, wine and beer. Our server, Terry, was super, attentive, friendly and courteous. There is something on the menu for everyone. The pasta was wonderful, no left overs, and the house version of the Greek salad was very good. Definitely worth stopping to dine at when you're in Guilford.
Bruen provecho!

Not quite a dinner spot. Below average food. Not a great selection of wine to choose from. Very nice people

On the day of our visit, Ballou's had only a small lunch crowd. Our very polite and solicitous waiter gave us much time to make our wine and meal selections. The menu offered many luncheon selections and even had 1/2 Paninis- which is a real plus for me. Prices are reasonable. My fresh mozzarella, tomato and prosciutto Panini was tasty although I would have preferred it to have been warmer, especially to have the mozzarella creamier and the tomato not tepid. A bonus was being able to get reacquainted with a friend and not being rushed out the door.
