All of us loved our entrees.Manager and hostess were very eager to please even though we had no reservations, manager took our order while in lobby so food would be out very soon after we were seated.

“Everyone Enjoyed Their Dinner”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

Choose Olio for a business dinner based on the reviews on read. My customers and associates were not disappointed. I had advised that this was going to be a business dinner when I made the reservation. We were seated in a room behind the bar and away from the main dining area. No issues with hearing each other talk. Drinks were a bit on the pricey side but thats what happens when you order Dewars rocks instead of Scotch rocks. The Calamari was good not great. We ran the gamut as far as the menu; Fish n' Chips, homemade pasta and scallops, a chicken and shrimp dish, a veal dish and the linguini special. It was thumbs up all around and not much left on anyone's plate. Aaron was our server and was attentive and professional without hovering. All in all a very good dining experience. I would recommend Olio for a business dinner or a special occasion.

After a horrible experience at an Old Saybrook Inn, we decided to stop at this little gem. Our waiter, Chico, was delightful, the food was wonderful, and the atmosphere clean and modern. Olio rescued our weekend!

“Excellent food”
Reviewed February 6, 2013

Very good cuisine, but noisy dining room due to wooden floors. Bar is more appealing. High quality restaurant and owned by the same people who own Bravo Bravo and Azu in Mystic, ct. Not quite as good as those two however.

“Beware of the fast-talking, misleading server and over-priced specials”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

After reading a number of positive reviews and noting that Olio's Restaurant had been ranked the 4th best restaurant out of 84 in Groton, CT by TripAdvisor, my friend and I decided we would have dinner there. Our evening began nicely enough when we were warmly greeted by the hostess and seated by a window. Our server appeared shortly thereafter to take our beverage orders. Since our plan was to spend a long, relaxing evening at Olio's, we ordered a bottle of wine. It was at that point that things began to go downhill. Our server, who never identified himself by name, asked if we would like a fruit and cheese platter to go along with our wine. We started to decline his offer since we rarely order appetizers but he became somewhat insistent, telling us that the platter was not on the menu and only given to VIPs who ordered a bottle of wine. Emphasis here is on the word "given" since at no time were we told there would be a charge for this; that it was a goodwill gesture. He brought our bottle of wine and about 10 minutes later, he re-appeared with the fruit and cheese platter. The platter held one small strawberry, a few pieces of cheese, 4 thin slices of salami, a few thin slices of toasted bread, an awful tasting pate and a scoop of some unknown substance. Much of it was left uneaten.
The server allowed us time to enjoy our wine before returning to let us know the specials. Unfortunately, he rattled them off so quickly that we could not remember most of what he said. We should have just ordered from the menu but decided to ask our server to repeat the specials, slowly. He gave us a brief overview of the specials, omitting the details of what accompanied them. I ordered a baked pork chop that was served with scalloped potatoes swimming in some kind of broth and 8 thin string beans. My friend ordered scallops with risotto that she described as "just ok". We ordered coffees, and then requested our check. We were shocked to see that we had been charged $16.95 for the fruit and cheese platter, and immediately asked the server why we were billed for something he had told us was given to VIP diners. He denied he had said that but did remove the charge. We were also surprised to see that each of the specials was in the $25 to $30 price range, which was significantly more than we felt the meals were worth.
Dining at Olio's was a very disappointing experience. Perhaps this review would have been entirely different if the server had cared more about his customers and less about how large a tip he would receive by using misleading tactics to inflate the bill.
