The Octagon restaurant is your average hotel restaurant. Fortunately on our visit this year it was not very crowded so the service was vey good. The food was pretty good. The ambiance was ok but I really don't care for the "open Kitchen" concept. As far as value is concerned it was average

Visiting the Marriott for a weekend event at the hotel the octagon is your only alternative to room service. On arriving a table of six was given one menu, and when we asked the waitress if they had any of the salmon, since they ran out of it the previous night. She flipped on the table frustrated and repeated if its not on the menu we can't get it for you. I repeated it is on the menu I was asking if you still had it available. Her response was no, we don't have it because its not on the menu, I then pointed the salmon on the menu and she repeated, you can't order from the dinner menu, and I wasn't. I stood up tired if the condescending behavior and informed her that rude behavior wasn't acceptable. I was at the table with important clients who also complained. The food then took more than an hour to arrive, and that was pub food.

The previous night we went here and ordered at about 11 pm and the food showed up at 12:45 am. The service is slow, rude and unaware of what working as a team actually means. Members of the staff leaned against the entrance to the bar, chatted and pointed while people stood there waiting for one person who was easily distracted to get to everyone.

While the Marriott itself was fine, the resturant and bar staff were consistently slow and unfriendly. I wonder if the owner of that place knows how many meals and drinks were free as an attempt to apologize for his staffs incompetitence, not to mention the lost revenue for those of us that went off site after having endured horrible service.

We have had many great dinners at the Octagon. We went for lunch today and found that some of their regular items on the menu were definitely not up to par.
We do hope they will improve these items,so we can order them in the future. It is a very nice atmosphere and mostly adults .

While staying in Mystic we decided to avoid driving and eat at the hotel: big mistake ! The restaurant was not crowed but we were seated at a table near the bar which had loud 70's music and were told we could not be moved .... hmmm empty tables ??
Service was poor: waiter barely came near the table , food only so so and overpriced. Next time we will drive into Mystic ...

We were staying at the Marriott Mystic Inn & Spa where the restaurant is located. If you are going to advertise as an upscale steak house you had best make an attempt to live up to the claim. The two of us were seated at a table for four. The waiter removed the wine glass for the two extra places but left the silverware. The attitude of the hostess and the wait staff could not have been worse; they were doing us a favor. We had to ask to have the water glasses refilled. And refills on our wine. Once we ordered we didn’t see much of the waiter till I asked for the check. Not the level of attention you would expect from a steak house as this is billed. The tuna appetizer was very good. The steaks were mediocre at best. The creamed spinach was more akin to spinach soup. I’m not sure how you can produce a poor portion of potatoes au gratin but they managed. While the restaurant we still fairly full, and while we were still eating our entrees, the staff started to vacuum and adjacent room; when the couple at the table beside us left the bus person cleared the table and they sprayed the cleaner causing it to blow into us. This is indicative a complete lack of understanding by the management of what a high-end steak house is supposed to be. The final touch was when we left the restaurant at 9:15 p.m. and the hostess bid us “have a nice day!”
